Autonomous Las Vegas Shuttle Bus involved in Accident within an hour
An autonomous van on the streets of Las Vegas collided with a truck within an hour of introduction. The van was supposed to drive through downtown Las Vegas and can hold eight people.
The damage was limited and no one was injured, reports the local news channel KSNV. According to a passenger, the bus stopped when a truck began to drive backward. The software does not seem to be clever enough to drive back a bit but froze until the back of the truck hit the bumper of the van.
According to a spokesman for the Las Vegas municipality, "the shuttle did what he had to do": halt when at risk. "If the truck had the same sensors as the shuttle, the accident would not have occurred."
The test with will continue next year.

But, to provide a counter argument, a human driver would have sounded the horn or left the truck more space in the first place, or even taken avoiding action when it became clear the truck wasn't going to stop. :p

If only there was some cheaper solution to these driving vehicles, something that could say, drive it safely and possibly be able to think for itself and learn and become better the more it drives, i mean just imagine if had something that would be able to do all that and more right now. lol

While there are human drivers, I'm not getting into a self-driving vehicle. I don't think it can work safely, mixing human drivers with computer drivers in everyday traffic.

Typical journalism, no story what so ever.
