AU Optronics 144 Hz Panels will be AMVA

AU Optronics 144 Hz Panels will be AMVA

AU Optronics is working on new 144 Hz Panels type AMVA monitor panels (Advanced MVA). The new VA type panel will go into production in Q1 2016. The 30in curved 21:9 based monitor will get a 2560x1080 resolution.

The new 30" M300DVR01.0 panel will get a 144Hz refresh rate as well which is still pretty rare for VA technology. It has a 3000:1 static contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles and sRGB colour gamut. It has a 2000R curvature as well. With production not starting until Q1 2016 don't expect to see this available in any monitor until middle of next year.

AMVA is designed to offer improved performance including reduced colour washout, and the aim to conquer the significant problem of colour distortion with traditional wide viewing angle technology. This technology creates more domains than conventional multi-domain vertical alignment (MVA) LCD's and reduces the variation of transmittance in oblique angles. It helps improve colour washout and provides better image quality in oblique angles than conventional VA LCD's. Also, it has been widely recognized worldwide that AMVA technology is one of the few ways to provide optimized image quality through multiple domains.

In a smaller 23.8" size AUO also have a couple of interesting TN Film panels planned. The new M238DTN01.0 and M238DTN01.2 panels will offer a 2560 x 1440 resolution for high pixel density viewing on a panel of this size, along with a 144Hz refresh rate. Being TN Film based they offer 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness, 170/160 viewing angles and sRGB gamut. They are expected to go in to production in October and December this year, so expect to see some displays featuring them in the new year hopefully.

If they can manage 1ms gsync, I will definitely be getting one of these!

This could be a good monitor. I HATE bad black levels.

A few words on response time:
ALL LCD`s have around 10ms pixel response time. That "1ms gtg" advertised is the fastest color shift (grey to grey) measurement under heavy overdrive. All other color shifts are only worse under that heavy overdrive. And if you even used that much overdrive you would have clearly visible bright inverse ghosting going on. In other words - the advertised response time is 100% worthless info, just like contrast ratio nowadays.

BUT: the three technologies which are in fact GOOD for enjoying motion are:

CRT = 0ms pixel response time for ALL color shifts equally
DLP (projector) = 1ms pixel response time for ALL color shifts equally
OLED = 0.01ms pixel response time for ALL color shifts equally

Since CRT burns eyes and is too small and dead. And since OLED is way too expensive and only available on TVs with lots of bloat that creates massive input lag... (lowest input lag OLED tv out there = 50ms).
The best way to enjoy motion right now is in fact a DLP projector.

The Acer Predator 144hz IPS I have now is awesome, with only one negative I've found. That being dark scenes, its just hard to make things out at times, seems a little too dark. I didn't really have this issue with the Asus rog swift.

How are AMVA blacks? Similar to the panel in the Predator? :3eyes:
