ASUS TUF Sabertooth P67 with Tactical Jacket

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/16/2010 05:00 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)

A couple of weeks ago ASUS held a seminar in Germany where they were showing some new P67 based motherboards.

The most debated motherboard was the TUF Sabertooth P67 ASUS as designed a plastic shroud for what they call aerodynamics. The shield will be called 'Tactical Jacket'.

A bit of a discussion developed on the seminar about the new shield as we feel that it's there for marketing purposes only, the sheer looks, thus easthetics. We think that once the plastic shield is used it will actually trap heat and not at all create better airflow. The design is extremely dependant on the cooling from the CPU cooler oin order to get some airflow under that shield. Meaning only reference design coolers would create airflow. Liquid cooling, heatpipe cooling .. none of this works  with the Tactical jacket.

ASUS will now actually deliver an active fan for this solution. So while all p67 will be passive, ASUS now used a shield  and all of the sudden a fan is needed. Hmmmz  ...

Granted, it looks great though. Sorry for the lousy photo's, only had a crappy point and shoot cam with me and the lighting was just horrible.
