Asus Teases Its PG27AQDM - First 27-Inch, OLED Gaming Monitor

Asus Teases Its PG27AQDM - First 27-Inch, OLED Gaming Monitor

Asus sharded details of an all-new, 240 Hz 1440p ROG gaming monitor with OLED display panel technology in a Twitter tweet by ROG Global. The monitor is dubbed the PG27AQDM, and it will be Asus' first OLED gaming monitor with a 27-inch panel.

The sneak peek shows the monitor's design language, which includes the same red and grey ROG theme as other ROG displays and the same triple-legged stand. What distinguishes the monitor is the razor-thin shroud that surrounds the display's outside edges. This is a feature of OLED's self-illuminating technology, which requires less total depth from the monitor to function than other display technologies and gives the screen a futuristic appearance.

The PG27AQDM is the smallest 27-inch OLED monitor we have seen from Asus to yet. This alone will be a significant feature for most gamers, as Asus' prior OLED implementations were only available in huge format panels measuring more than 40 inches. The 27-inch form factor is ideal for customers who sit at standard monitor viewing distances yet want all of the benefits that OLED has to offer. The majority of the greatest gaming monitors are either 27 or 32 inches in size. With a 240 Hz refresh rate and a 1440p (2560 x 1440) display, Asus is obviously targeting hardcore gamers looking for the most responsive panel available. OLED technology is naturally superior in this area, providing not only superior colours and brightness for more accurate detection of threats, but also industry-leading response speeds.

LG's new 27' UltraGear OLED gaming display, which has a response time of only 0.03ms, is a fantastic illustration of this. In comparison, most other gaming displays that do not use OLED technology have response times of 1ms or 0.5ms at best. We do not know what OLED panel Asus is using or what its specifications are, but we estimate its response times to be comparable to other OLED screens. The display will be completely shown at CES 2023, where we can expect precise specifications, first impressions, and ideally the monitor's pricing - which will almost certainly be quite high.

I can't believe it's actually happening. I didn't think I'd live long enough to see the true replacement of CRT technology, but here we are. Amazing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the panel being used here is the same one that LG quietly announced a few weeks back. Pricing will be a huge factor but I'm honestly excited. After I replace the parts on the PC I will be saving up for an OLED monitor for sure. I always said to my friends that if they hit the market and tick all the boxes I'd be there with my wallet.

It is the same. But there may be additional features to it like a heatsink. ( 0:23 seconds)

EDIT: Question is: are you paying more for the brand and the weird LED under the monitor or for more quality.

I can't believe it's actually happening. I didn't think I'd live long enough to see companies consistently releasing out of date specification monitors, purely because they are overstocked on old chipsets and panels.

This is insane, yet another monitor below specification - why have you forsaken me!
