1000w starting feel too small with latest developments ADL eating 350w+ an rumours that 4090 is 500w. Not long ago that 1000w was considered overkill, but now it's probably bare minimum if looking at high end pc parts.

I wasn't trying to stress test my computer cooling like Linus does he uses cinebench+furmark together which can easily climb to 840watts with a threadripper or 5950x + 300w gpu (I saw that with a 1080ti)

but yesterday I played and logged temps for 8-9hrs of forza horizon 5 max settings+rtx (thats above presets) and my average power usage at the psu IN was 630Watts....I forgot to check the psu temps that I'm also logging but it's definitely a bad idea to run 750watts, as I've written several times on these forums...I once went above max power like 10y ago with SLI and it destroyed the main gpu and damaged some ports on my motherboard, it's a really really bad idea to run "just what you need"
when that happened to me I lost if I count the MB too like 800$ + a new psu nowadays it could cost you 3000$ or more you really don't want to risk that
especially if your OS is on an M.2 because I also had a hard crash once and M.2 aren't physical drives it can completely corrupt your OS in an unrecoverable way, happened to me once too my backup was 1month old, not cool

Don't forget that PSUs also lose a couple of percent a year in capacity as the big capacitors wear out, and that a PSU is most efficient when it's running at half capacity. It's always good to look at what the calculator tells you and go a size or two up. The difference between a 750 and 850 isn't much when you consider that they last for many years.

I'm very happy that I chose an ASUS Rog Platinum 850w PSU when I specced my 'new' gaming computer a year ago (where has this year gone). I have an overclocked Rog Strix 3080 but don't use my optional CPU overclock so I reckon I'm fine with 850w. What the next gen of NVidia 4080 cards will require is of no concern to me as I won't be upgrading to the 4080 gen card. The rumours swirling around about excessive power requirements are hopefully crazy when the world is meant to be reducing its power usage.
I would have bought this Rog PSU if the 1000w had been available a year ago, the other choice was the 1200w unit.
