ASUS ROG Claymore Series Keyboards Finally Announced

ASUS ROG finally announced the ROG Claymore and ROG Claymore Core mechanical gaming keyboards. For the first time ever you can get an RGB keyboard with a detachable keypad for flexible placement and ROG Claymore comes in two flavors.

The mechy keys have been fitted with their AURA LED lighting, but yeah pretty much ar Cherry RGB keys, and this that makes for a mechanical keyboard.

ROG Claymore is a gaming keyboard with Cherry MX RGB mechanical switches (Red, Blue, Brown, and Black options) and a detachable numeric keypad with macro functions to give users flexible placement options. Techpowerup snagged a couple of new photos, click the thumbnails below.

This backlit keyboard features customizable keys with RGB lighting and N-key Rollover technology. It can be synced to ROG motherboards, with hotkeys allowing users to control fan speed, boot up, CPU and memory overclocking, and BIOS access. ROG Claymore has a durable aluminum-alloy frame with Mayan-inspired detailing for a premium look.

For those of you who love plenty of macros or if you're an old school FPS (first-person shooter) enthusiast who still prefers to use a keypad on the left - your dream has come true. ROG Claymore is also available as an 80% TKL (tenkeyless - no keypad) for minimalists, ROG Claymore Core is perfect if that is you and the keypad is available separately in case you change your mind.

  • ROG Claymore is the world’s first RGB LED-backlit keyboard with a detachable numpad for flexible placement; it can also be used as an 80% TKL keyboard
  • Award-winning: Durable aluminum chassis with intricate Mayan-inspired detailing, Aura Sync technology and individually-customizable backlit keys.
  • Exclusive cooling fan speed hotkeys paired with an ASUS motherboard; ROG Armoury for customizing profile and key settings.

Both keyboards feature Cherry MX RGB LED switches, ASUS Aura Sync RGB LED technology for synchronized light effects with various Aura-compatible products, and exclusive fan control hotkeys when paired with an ASUS motherboard for a superior gaming experience.

ROG Claymore is the world's first RGB mechanical keyboard to have a detachable numpad design that allows users to use it as a full-size keyboard at home, or as an 80% TKL (an abbreviation of 'tenkeyless', which refers to the lack of a numpad) mechanical gaming keyboard at LAN parties. The detachable keypad can be placed to the left or right of the keyboard to suit different scenarios - on the left side of the keyboard as macro keys for MMO gaming, or on the right for a more traditional keypad placement. ROG Claymore Core is a compact TKL mechanical gaming keyboard and does not have a detachable numpad.

Both keyboards utilize German-made Cherry MX switches (Red, Blue, Brown and Black) for a responsive feel and up to 50-million-keystroke durability. Anti-ghosting and full N-Key rollover (NKRO) technology ensure all keystrokes are logged, no matter how many keys are pressed simultaneously. Each key is individually-backlit and fully programmable. There is even on-the-fly macro-key recording and nine preset Aura light effects.
The unique keyboard design has won numerous design accolades including the 2016 Red Dot and Computex d&i awards. The keyboards are finished in aluminum and have intricate Mayan-inspired etchings on the keyboard chassis.

ROG-exclusive features
Pairing ROG Claymore and ROG Claymore Core to an ASUS motherboard gives users access to dedicated hotkeys for instant cooling control for improved gaming performance.

Exclusive ASUS Aura Sync RGB LED technology enables synchronized light effects when using these keyboards together with ASUS motherboards and graphics cards. Users can combine and control the LEDs on all Aura-enabled products via single software to achieve perfect, synchronized harmony. There is an array of LED effects and a color palette of over 16 million colors, and users can even use Claymore's backlit keys to reflect CPU temperature.
The keyboards have built-in flash memory for up to six (five customized and one default) user profiles. The intuitive ROG Armoury dashboard can be used to customize individual key, lighting and macro settings. It can even track statistical data like the total number of keystrokes made during a game.

I cannot be the only one that simply wants a high quality PCB with a flat metal slab where I can exchange Cherry switches and LEDs, right?

Isn't that what Corsair did with the "Strafe" keyboard? It's not made in metal though and the LED color is either red or "infinite" via the RGB model which is a bit more expensive.

None of the extra keys that the K keyboard series have either besides a minimal button for locking certain keys and another for toggling the lighting.
(With the software - currently v2.xx is still a bit buggy. - allowing for changing things more in-depth.)

Probably better keyboards out there though (I mostly know about Logitech but I switched to Corsair a while back, between the two it seems Logitech has the better hardware by a small margin but I much prefer this software.) but mechanical will probably always be costly particularly newer switches such as the "silent" variant ones.

EDIT: Is there a ~100% metal mechanical keyboard at all come to think of it?
(Or just the frame itself, switches probably aren't going to be metallic anytime soon.)

EDIT: Well there's something.

(Because having the keyboard look like the ATM machine interface is apparently a thing. :D )

As for "ROG" it's usually OK (Fairly high quality, well the motherboards at least.) but it's also usually fairly expensive.
(Lots of little extras but for a keyboard is it really important that the numpad part be detachable? Eh I guess there's a thing for that too.)

The Corsairs have a nice design, but no exchangeable leds/switches. I would like something closer to a "platform".
