ASUS ROG Announces Strix H270I Gaming and B250I Gaming
ASUS Republic of Gamers announced Strix H270I Gaming and B250I Gaming, compact, mini-ITX motherboards that combine bold aesthetics, premier performance, and incredible audio to deliver gaming experiences with punch and unrivaled style.
ROG Strix H270I Gaming is based on the Intel® H270 chipset and ROG Strix B250I Gaming is based on the Intel B250 chipset. Both motherboards support the latest 7th Generation Intel Core™ processors and technologies. With their innovative double-decker heatsink design and ASUS Aura Sync RGB lighting, SupremeFX and the S1220A codec for exceptional audio, ultra-fast networking with Intel Gigabit LAN, dual onboard M.2 slots, and exclusive ROG innovations for stable, efficient operation and system protection, ROG Strix H270I Gaming and B250I Gaming offer powerful performance in a compact size to give gamers the edge against opponents.
Innovative design: Double-decker heatsink and ASUS Aura Sync RGB lighting
ROG Strix H270I Gaming and B250I Gaming feature an innovative double-decker heatsink design that allows the M.2 SSD to be stacked atop of the PCH heatsink, maximizing board space and improving heat dissipation by up to 20°C for better stability and gaming performance.
ASUS Aura Sync RGB LED lighting technology with one onboard RGB header lets gamers create incredible lighting effects and synchronize them with compatible components, such as RGB LED strips, graphics cards and more.
Exceptional audio: SupremeFX, Sonic Studio III and Sonic Radar III
ROG Strix H270I Gaming and ROG Strix B250I Gaming feature the exclusive SupremeFX S1220A codec that delivers an exceptional 113dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on the line-in connection for the best ever recording performance, and a 120dB SNR on the line-out to ensure crystal-clear sound. ROG engineers have also added Texas Instruments® RC 4580 and OPA1688 op-amps for incredibly high-gain, low-distortion sound that envelops the listener.
The Sonic Studio III software suite provides total control of system audio. Sonic Radar III lets gamers pinpoint enemy positions instantly in first-person shooters and features a new heads-up display with a three-dimensional in-game arrow.
Ultimate networking: Intel Gigabit LAN, dual LAN, LANGuard and GameFirst IV
ROG Strix H270I Gaming and ROG Strix B250I Gaming have the very latest Intel Gigabit Ethernet (I219-V) integrated to reduce CPU overhead and deliver exceptionally-high TCP and UDP throughput, freeing up more computing power for gaming and gameplay. Additionally,ROG Strix H270I Gaming features a dual-gigabit-LAN design that adds Realtek®Ethernet to ensure uninterrupted gaming in the event of a single port failure. ASUS-exclusive LANGuard provides protection against electrostatic discharges and surges, and GameFirst IV prioritizes gaming-related network traffic for faster, lag-free online gaming experiences.
Superior gaming performance: 2x2 Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO, dual onboard M.2 and RAMCache II
ROG Strix H270I Gaming and ROG Strix B250I Gaming feature integrated 802.11ac 2x2 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi for reliable, wide-reach wireless connectivity at speeds of up to 867Mbps.
Dual PCIe® 3.0 x4 M.2 slots let users enjoy fast data-transfer speeds of up to 32Gbps, and give them maximum flexibility when choosing an SSD for their system. Support for Intel Optane™ memory — a revolutionary new non-volatile memory that enables SSD-like performance from a hard disk drive (HDD) — lets gamers enjoy dramatically accelerated data transfer speeds for faster launching of their favorite games.
Intelligent RAMCache II technology effectively caches an entire storage device to reduce the risk of data loss and ensure faster game loading.
Comprehensive protection: Gamer’s Guardian including SafeSlot, Q-LEDs and more
ROG Strix H270I Gaming and ROG Strix B250I Gaming have a suite of protective features called Gamer’s Guardian, which includes SafeSlot, Q-LEDs, Digi+ voltage-regulator modules (VRMs), DRAM Overcurrent Protection and other Smart DIY features. SafeSlot is the PCIe® slot reinvented by ASUS and engineered to provide superior retention and shearing resistance. Q-LEDs provide quick and easy problem diagnosis by indicating where on the motherboard a problem is occurring. Digi+ VRMs improve power delivery to the CPU, and DRAM Overcurrent Protection helps extend motherboard life.

The size of the board itself actually mitigates most of the differences between the two chipsets (which mostly add up to fewer HSIO and PCIe lanes). However, one big difference is the B250 does not support RAID, so if you want/need that you need to go with the H270/Z270.

Very interested in these motherboards as im really looking for my next build to be M-ITX. Any reasons to choose the B270 chipset over the B250 apart from the added ethernet port?
