ASUS Releases 32-inch ROG Strix XG32VQR 1440p 144Hz FreeSync 2 HDR

ASUS Releases 32-inch ROG Strix XG32VQR 1440p 144Hz FreeSync 2 HDR

ASUS is now listing the new 32-inch ROG Strix XG32VQR display, offering users a large FreeSync 2 HDR compliant VA panel with a wide color gamut (125% sRGB) and a high 144Hz maximum refresh rate. The monitor is an update to the ROG Strix XG32VQ, and has stronger backlighting up to 450 cd/m².

The display supports the VESA standard display HDR 400 and meets AMD's requirements for Freesync 2 HDR. The specifications remain largely identical: the 31.5-inch VA panel resolves with WQHD (2,560 × 1,440 pixels), can display freesync up to 144 hertz and is curved with a 1800R radius, the panel would be an SVA.

New is the backlight, which now reaches a brightness of up to 450 instead of 300 cd/m². AMD gives the ROG Strix XG32VQR a certificate for Freesync 2 HDR. This includes support for Low Frame Rate Compensation (LFC), which displays images below the minimum freesync limit multiple times to make image output dynamic at low Fps - the range is likely to be 48 to 144 hertz. The HDR characteristics of Freesync 2 HDR should be between HDR 400 and 600.

So far Asus lists the ROG Strix XG32VQR only on its website. The predecessor without R-suffix is currently available from 550 euros , where should also be the successor sorted in order to remain attractive compared to Samsung's C32HG70 . The monitor has nearly identical specifications but uses a quantum dot layer and backlighting with local dimming and peak values of 600 cd / m² (HDR 600 display)

That's actually a better price point than I guessed. Still more than I'm willing to pay, but, there's also practically nothing at all about this monitor that appeals to me except maybe HDR (I prefer something larger, 4K, and I don't have any interest in Freesync or high refresh rates).

I'm extremely pleased with this, for ~$400:

I am by for not a monitor guru, but it reads pretty good to me. I hope pricing is right.

Interesting a gaming monitor that is not a crappy TN panel.
