Asus offers GeForce GTX 950-2G without a 6-pin power plug

The GTX 950 is an entry-level to mainstream graphics card in the Maxwell range of GPUs from Nvidia that sits pretty nicely in the 1080P domain. ASUS offers a GeForce GTX 950-2G without a 6-pin power plug.

The GeForce GTX 950 is a cut-down version of the GM206 GPU that Nvidia uses in their GTX 960 series. This revised chip has a lower number of shader processors, a 128-bit wide memory bus and thus 2 GB of GDDR5 memory.

  • Perfectly matched with ASUS Z170 motherboards for optimized style and performance.
  • Dual fan design provides 2X greater air flow and 3X quieter performance.
  • Auto-Extreme Technology with Super Alloy Power II delivers premium quality and best reliability.
  • GPU Tweak II with Xsplit Gamecaster provides intuitive performance tweaking and lets you stream your gameplay instantly.

The product has been castrated and stripped of everything that is sexy with the GTX 960/970/980. For the 'normal' models you have been able to see the memory cut down to 2 GB of memory on these puppies, that memory runs on a 128-bit wide bus, the shader processors have been cut-down to 768 Shader/Stream/Cuda cores.

Asus states the card has a board power of 75W and doesn't need a six-pin PCIe power connector.

This would be a very nice way of updating my old backup Phenom II based PC, sitting in a cupboard, which currently has an old Radeon 4850 in it.

Knowing that if I my main PC goes down I would at least have a PC with a semi decent GPU in it is very tempting.

Maybe he is. Why do you care what he spends his money on?

OT I think everyone may be missing the boat on this card. It's great and all the power requirement but seriously can they just make a low profile 950. Some people would like HDMI2.0a in their HTPC.
