ASUS Announces ProArt PQ22UC - Has a 4K HDR Panel (for 5K)

ASUS today announced ProArt™ PQ22UC, a 21.6-inch OLED monitor with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution and high-dynamic-range (HDR) technology designed to deliver accurate colour reproduction with exceptional contrast and detail for photographers, video editors and other professional content creators with colour-critical workflows.

Featuring an advanced OLED panel with billions of independent, pure RGB self-illuminating pixels and a 1000000:1 contrast ratio, ProArt PQ22UC reproduces truly lifelike pictures with deep blacks, lifelike colours and brilliant, tonally accurate highlights. Its 4K UHD-resolution panel with a pixel density of 204 ppi provides up to 300% more onscreen space than other Full HD monitors of a similar size, giving users more room to work while displaying onscreen content with incredible detail. With a response time of up to 0.1ms, ProArt PQ22UC is the fastest monitor in the market and delivers outstanding, blur-free performance when displaying videos and other animated content with fast action.

  • Advanced OLED panel with pure RGB self-illuminating pixels and 1000000:1 contrast ratio for enhanced HDR with deep blacks and tonally accurate highlights
  • Exclusive ASUS Smart HDR Technology supports multiple HDR formats including HDR-10 and HLG
  • Professional-grade colour with 99% DCI-P3 gamut coverage, factory pre-calibration with ∆E < 2 colour accuracy and ASUS ProArt Calibration Technology
  • Ultraslim profile and lightweight, portable design with fold-flat stand provides an excellent solution for creatives to showcase their work to clients on location

ProArt PQ22UC exceeds industry standards for colour reproduction, achieving 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, making it a reliable tool for production workflows. Factory pre-calibration guarantees an out-of-the-box colour accuracy value of Delta-E < 2, and support for ASUS ProArt Calibration Technology makes it easy to maintain colour consistency and brightness over time.

ProArt PQ22UC has a compact, portable design with an easily detachable stand and smart cover that enable users to work on location or showcase work to clients without sacrificing visual quality.

Exceptional contrast, incredible detail

ProArt PQ22UC is the world’s first 21.6-inch OLED 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) monitor with 204 ppi pixel density and HDR support, providing 300% more onscreen space than Full HD monitors of the same size, combined with incredibly sharp details and an expanded tonal range. Its billions of pure RGB self-illuminating pixels can be individually activated to reproduce truly lifelike pictures with deep blacks and enhanced colour contrast in high luminance.

Fully realising the advanced performance of the OLED panel, ProArt PQ22UC achieves a 1000000:1 contrast ratio. Thanks to the exclusive ASUS Smart HDR Technology, ProArt PQ22UC supports multiple HDR (high-dynamic-range) formats. HDR-10 ensures compatibility with existing streaming video and a growing list of HDR-enabled games while hybrid log gamma (HLG) support addresses broadcast and satellite TV, including the BBC iPlayer and DIRECTV™. HDR monitors offer a wider colour spectrum than traditional monitors with a luminance range that comes closer to what the human eye is capable of perceiving. HDR support on ProArt PQ22UC enables deeper blacks and bright whites, as well as accurate reproduction of details in shadows and bright highlights for a more realistic viewing experience.

True-to-life colour accuracy

ProArt PQ22UC exceeds industry standards for colour reproduction, achieving, 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage. It features 10-bit colour graphics to display more than 1.07 billion colours, a 14-bit internal lookup table, and support for Gamma values of 2.6, 2.4, 2.2, 2.0, and 1.8 to produce natural-looking images with smoother transitions between hues.

ProArt PQ22UC is factory pre-calibrated to guarantee industry-leading colour accuracy (Delta-E < 2). Each monitor features advanced gray-scale tracking technology to ensure images are accurately reproduced onscreen. The monitor also ensures 95% uniformity compensation to guard against brightness and chroma (colour) fluctuations across the screen.

Whether on a desktop or laptop, PC or Mac, ASUS ProArt Calibration Technology offers colour accuracy tuning and uniformity compensation to make things easy when it's time to recalibrate the monitor's brightness and colour consistency. Users can choose from a variety of advanced setups to achieve optimum colour accuracy, get 3 x 3 and 5 x 5 uniformity compensation matrices to ensure consistent brightness, and save all colour parameter profiles on the monitor’s internal scaler integrated circuit chip.

ASUS ProArt Calibration Technology is also compatible with major hardware calibrators, such as X-Rite® i1 Display Pro and the Datacolor® Spyder® 5 series.

Smart design and connectivity

Just one third the weight of a conventional 21.6-inch monitor and offering an ultraslim profile, ProArt PQ22UC has a portable design that gives users an excellent way to showcase their work to clients on location. Its detachable stand folds completely flat for easy transport, and the monitor can be set up in seconds without any tools. In addition, an innovative foldable smart case protects ProArt PQ22UC from dust and scratches. The case can be folded into a stand to prop the monitor up in either portrait or landscape orientation.

ProArt PQ22UC includes a Micro HDMI and dual USB-C™ ports that support AC power input, data transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps and 4K UHD output. The reversible USB-C connector design makes connecting external devices quick and effortless.

The price then. It's selling for £4,699.00 in the UK, which is give or take 5400 USD/EUR :(

My god, it's only €5000!!!!!

For god sake, even the BFG from Nvidia it's cheaper and it's a monster in size with HDR1000. This crappy oled goes to 330 nits max! I don't even want to speak about some FALD TVs from Samsung or Sony, which are at half of this OLED price. Why Asus, why would you do that???? It's just shameful, really...

Why would ASUS charge a lot of money for a one off OLED panel production that comes factory calibrated vs mass produced TVs on a decade old process? Idk - probably because the intended audience for this monitor is like 5 people.
