Assassins Creed Valhalla update to reduce game size by more than 30GB
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting an update next week that promises to cut down on the size of the game on all platforms. You still have to install the game again though.
To make Valhalla smaller, the game data has been completely restructured. This makes the game much smaller. It will also have other benefits, like faster load times and better performance, so it seems like it will be worth having to reinstall Valhalla from the beginning again. Between 30 and 44GB of storage space will be saved when people re-install Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The PS5 version, on the other hand, will only shrink by 13GB when it's done. Even though the Xbox Series S has 512GB of space on its SSD, it only has 364Gb available. This restructuring will help it a lot because it only has 364Gb of that space. In the table below, you will find information about each type of platform.
Download size of update from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1:
- PC ~ 78 GB
- PS4 ~ 67 GB
- PS5 ~ 40GB
- X1 ~ 62GB
- XS ~ 71 GB
Disk space used after installing 1.4.1
- PC ~ 77 GB
- PS4 ~ 75 GB
- PS5 ~ 77GB
- X1 ~ 63GB
- XS ~ 72 GB
Disk space saved after updating:
- PC ~ 34 GB
- PS4 ~ 30 GB
- PS5 ~ 13 GB
- X1 ~ 30GB
- XS ~ 44 GB
There will be more information about this new update for Valhalla in the next few days, including when it will be out.

Better compression? since ps5 version doesn't save as much, assuming better compression was already used on ps5 version.

Maybe removed unused language/audio files?

This is the kind of stuff that irritates me so much about AAA titles these days - there is no reason they couldn't have done this sooner. I wouldn't be surprised if they could get away with a higher level of compression, either. Unless the quality is noticeably diminished from compression (doubtful), this kind of bloat is a lose-lose situation to the user. The game takes longer to download/update, the game is slower to load when you actually go to play it, and although SSD space is affordable these days, you're still paying quite a bit to store such a large game. If you're on a HDD, the storage cost is minimal but the loading time becomes significantly worse.
Everyone has enough CPU and RAM resources to handle lossless compression. It's a win for everyone, so just do it.

Eventhough I have 6TB of SSD space and 6TB mechanical, this is still nice to see.
Games are huge. And its stupid as hell they sont have selected downloads.
Dont have the DLC, dont have to install it.
Same with languages/audio.
Was just playing it last night to test out FSR at 5120x2160. Couldn't believe how well it looked while getting 60 fps with game maxed out.
