ASRock's family of motherboards based on AMD's X670E chipset and made for the upcoming Ryzen 7000-series processors went on pre-order Wednesday at two European stores. Unlike most AMD X670E-powered mainboards, two retailers say that some of ASRock's X670E platforms are not excessively expensive.

ASRock said in early August that it will offer five motherboards based on AMD's X670 Extreme chipset for its upcoming Ryzen 7000 processors in AM5 packaging. Instead, the family has three boards: X670E Steel Legend, X670E Pro RS, and X670E PG Lightning for everyone else. The X670E Taichi Carrara and X670E Taichi mainboards are for serious enthusiasts and overclockers who don't have to worry about the budget.

ASRock's most expensive mainboards are the X670E Taichi Carrara and X670E Taichi, which cost €693 and €661, respectively to a screenshot posted by @momomo us, a hardware leaker with a sound track record, much cheaper than the $1300–$1500 range we have seen with X670E mainboards from Asus and MSI.

Maybe more important is that the cheapest X670E PG Lightning from ASRock will cost €334 ($278 without VAT) in France and £311.62 ($298 without VAT) in the U.K., which is in the same price range as Asus and MSI's AMD X670-based platforms. The X670E Pro RS will cost about €373 ($311 without VAT), and the X670E Steel Legend will sell for about €412 ($343 without VAT). It is hard to say why ASRock's X670E motherboards are so much cheaper than those from other companies that use the same chipset. ASRock used to make cheap motherboards about 20 years ago. Still, the company has become a provider of fairly high-end products for gamers and overclockers who are picky.

As the date for when AMD's new platforms will be available gets closer, more stores will start to sell motherboards with AMD's X670 and X670 Extreme chipsets. But we still don't know how much Biostar and Gigabyte's AM5 motherboards will cost.
