ASRock announces two high-end X399 motherboards for Ryzen Threadripper

Next in line today is ASRock who outs two X399 motherboards, the Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming and X399 Taichi. The Socket TR4 and X399 chipset based motherboards will become abailable early August.

The Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming is a high-end model mobo with an 11 -hase circuit based. It comes with an AQUANTIA 10 Gigabit LAN, dual gigabit LAN with Intel chip and IEEE 802.11ac wireless LAN (crazy!). Expansion slots for graphics cards include PCI - Express 3.0 (x16) x 4. Main specifications include DDR4 ×8 (maximum 128 GB / 3600 + MHz) memory slot, SATA 3.0 (6 Gbps) × 8, Ultra M.2 (32 Gbps) × 3, U.2 (32 Gbps) × 1. The Audio circuit is based on a 7.1 channel HD Audio from Realtek "ALC 1220" improved with a  "Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 3" suite.

The ATX form factor board size is 305 × 244 mm.

  • Socket: Socket TR 4
  • Chipset: AMD X399
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Memory slot: DDR 4 × 8 (maximum 128 GB / 3600 + MHz)
  • Expansion slots: PCI-Express 3.0 (x16) x 4, PCI-Express 2.0 (x1) x 1, vertical M.2 x 1 (for WiFi / Bluetooth card)
  • Storage: SATA 3.0 (6 Gbps) × 8, M.2 (32 Gbps) × 3, U.2 (32 Gbps) × 1
  • LAN: 10 Gigabit LAN × 1 (AQUANTIA AQC 107), Gigabit LAN × 2 (Intel I 211AT), IEEE 802.11ac wireless LAN
  • Sound: 7.1 ch HD audio (Realtek ALC 1220)
  • Interface: USB 3.1 Gen.2 × 2 (Type-A / Type-C), USB 3.0 x 8, 10 Gigabit LAN x 1, Gigabit LAN x 2, Audio Terminal x 5, Optical Audio Terminal x 1, PS / 2 × 1
  • External dimensions: 305 × 244 mm

The X399 Taichi then, again an 11-phase circuit based is present as well. Specs are nearly the same as the Fata1ty, but this one is lacking the 10 Gbps Ethernet conneector. The memory supported is DDR4 × 8 (maximum 128 GB / 3, 600 + MHz), storage is SATA 3.0 (6 Gbps) × 8, Ultra M.2 (32 Gbps) × 3, U.2 (32 Gbps) × 1. Expansion slots are PCI - Express 3.0 (x16) x 4, PCI - Express 2.0 (x 1) x 1, vertical M.2 x 1, and multi - graphics corresponds to 4 - way NVIDIA SLI / AMD CrossFire X.

Network connectivity wise you will see Intel dual gigabit LAN and IEEE 802.11ac wireless LAN ##.

  • Socket: Socket TR 4
  • Chipset: AMD X399
  • Form factor: ATX
  • Memory slot: DDR 4 × 8 (maximum 128 GB / 3, 600 + MHz)
  • Expansion slots: PCI-Express 3.0 (x16) x 4, PCI-Express 2.0 (x1) x 1, vertical M.2 x 1 (for WiFi / Bluetooth card)
  • Storage: SATA 3.0 (6 Gbps) × 8, M.2 (32 Gbps) × 3, U.2 (32 Gbps) × 1
  • LAN: Gigabit LAN × 2 (Intel I 211AT), IEEE 802.11ac wireless LAN
  • Sound: 7.1 ch HD audio (Realtek ALC 1220)
  • Interface: USB 3.1 Gen.2 × 2 (Type-A / Type-C), USB 3.0 x 8, Gigabit LAN x 2, Audio Terminal x 5, Optical Audio Terminal x 1, PS / 2 x 1
  • External dimensions: 305 × 244 mm

From what i know, it's the other way around, it's better to buy the first revision, newer ones get manufacture cost "tweaks",and get lower quality with each revision.

+1

@Amx85
the only ones that needed that was 970/980 chipset, and asus/gigabyte (990 chip).

one reason for me not to get gigabyte/msi boards , as they almost all the time offer "less" than comparably priced asus/asrock boards.
nor do i like gigabytes business model of shipping out R1.0 units with "higher" quality/performing parts (e.g. different vram chip) so that they get good reviews, then dropping R 1.1/2.0 with cheaper parts without lowering retail prices or even stating the difference to consumers on website/box
(just mentioning rev number).

seen this myself with Nv cards since gtx700 (didnt have gigabyte cards before that).

besides that, for the past few years almost all oc/gaming/premium boards from asrock seem to have a couple things "done" better compared to others (vrms, "power" related components) while offering same/more phases as well.

so if one company offers things like 12K caps (vs 10K), double stacked mosfets (vs single) etc, all at a similar price, then i know what i'll get...
not saying ill ever run a cpu under LN2, but if someone offers you a porsche/ferrari/lambo vs a MB or Lexus, would you say no, just because you cant go 200mph all the time?? :)
