ASRock AMD X399 and Intel X299 Motherboard Confirmed via Listing

ASRock AMD X399 and Intel X299 Motherboard Confirmed via Listing

Okay get this, X299 and X399 motherboards leaked out via ASRock‘s FTP listing for a setup file. That setup file is in plain text and used by the driver disc to install files to a system. This also means it can be read quite easily if opened in notepad and can reveal some surprising information.

Some FTP links at ASRock Europe point towards an ASRock Fatal1ty X399 motherboard which has not been revealed yet. The FTP path traces have already been closed at the EU ASrock website reports Eteknix. This would show stuff like this:

Inside this text file, we can see information like this:

[ASRInfo] CDLBL=Fatal1ty X399-00.01 Model="X399 Professional Gaming" CDSetupVer=v3.0.33.1 ProductSeries=Motherboard Series=Fatal1ty

That part is boring and not really juicy. Sure we get the name of the product, but if you go deep enough, you can see what features this board has, for example:

[Item_158] Title=Aquantia 10GbE LAN Driver Description=Install Aquantia 10GbE LAN Driver Tab=1 InstallCmd=Drivers\LAN\Aquantia\(v1.40.042)\Aquantia_AQtion_x86_Win_ver1.40.042.0.msi SilentCmd=Drivers\LAN\Aquantia\(v1.40.042)\Aquantia_AQtion_x86_Win_ver1.40.042.0.msi%%/quiet /norestart Model="X399 Professional Gaming" OSVersion=Win7,Win8,Win8.1,Win10 Type=Driver

Yep, the motherboard is going to have 5 / 10-Gigabit LAN controllers. The i9 motherboard would indirectly confirm upcoming i9 Core-X series.

[ASRInfo]
CDLBL=Fatal1ty X299-00.01
Model=”X299 Professional Gaming i7″, “X299 Gaming K6”
CDSetupVer=v3.0.26.1
ProductSeries=Motherboard
Series=Fatal1ty

[ASRInfo]
CDLBL=IIX299B-00.01
Model=”X299 Taichi”
CDSetupVer=v3.0.33
ProductSeries=Motherboard
Series=ASRock

[ASRInfo]
CDLBL=Fatal1ty X299-00.02
Model=”X299 Professional Gaming i9“, “X299 Gaming K6”
CDSetupVer=v3.0.33.1
ProductSeries=Motherboard
Series=Fatal1ty

The ASRock Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming is currently the only confirmed model based on this chipset. In fact, this entry is basically the first confirmation that AMD Threadripper platform will utilize X399 chipset, because to this day, it was only a rumor. This also means that Intel will have a problem with future HEDT platform as X399 chipset name will already be occupied by AMD.

Speaking of Ryzen motherboards, ASRock also confirmed upcoming ITX models:

  • X370 Gaming-ITX/ac
  • AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac

Fatal1ty X399 is the only one confirmed so far via ASRock but since X299 motherboards are closer to release, there are a lot more entries with those chipsets. VideoCardz.com was tipped to four X299 models:

  • Fatal1ty Professional Gaming i9
  • Fatal1ty Professional Gaming i7
  • Gaming K6
  • Taichi

They also confirm two more upcoming Ryzen motherboards from ASRock as well:

  • X370 Gaming-ITX/ac
  • AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac

It is interesting to see how AMD named their chipset series to basically one level above Intel. B350 versus B250  and thus X399 against the X299.

These chipset naming are too close for comfort.

Imagine ordering a X399 motherboard and receiving a X99 motherboard instead, vice versa.

Though this'll mostly be an issue when hunting for used parts, which will take awhile.

Naming the top end chipset x399 seems like a dick move by AMD. If they went off history is should have been x390 not x399. This just comes off as a, "Me too!" move.

That said, if you are informed (which anyone buying in HEDT should be) this will not cause confusion.

The x370 boards in itx and I'm assuming matx are welcome additions and have been missing in the lineup.

Like you said nobody buying into HEDT platforms will be confused as they will have done lots of research before spending this kind of cash. Someone at AMD was having a little fun with Intel, what are they going to name there next chipset x499? I think it was little FU in that name. :)

AMD is trolling Intel... let them have their fun :D
