Asobo Studio Will Add DLSS to Microsoft Flight Simulator

Asobo Studio Will Add DLSS to Microsoft Flight Simulator

According to developer Asobo Studio, the PC edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator will have support for Nvidia DLSS later this year.

DLSS for Microsoft Flight Simulator will be released 'later this year', according to the company. The upscaling method will be employed in the game's DirectX 12 mode according to the company. There is no other information provided. DLSS is a "supersampling" technique developed by Nvidia that takes advantage of the Tensor cores found in RTX graphics cards. A game is rendered in a lower resolution than the original. After that, artificial intelligence upscaling is used to improve the image's quality. Frame rates could be greatly improved as a result of this.

The firm makes no mention of a specific date for when the upgrade will be made available to customers.

The latest Developer Q&A Live was on January 26 at 18:30 UTC. Below is the discussion in a nutshell. The full interview is watchable at the end of this article.

  • World Update 7 will cover Australia with updated satellite imagery, a new digital elevation model, and a bunch of point-of-interest on January 31.
  • Sim Update 8 is focusing on bug fixing only and is delayed a bit, now expected on March 1. The beta possibility will come shortly after World Update 7.
  • World Update 8: Iberia is coming in late March, including both Portugal and Spain.
  • A free Top Gun: Maverick expansion pack is expected to be released in May.
  • Both gliders and helicopters are coming in autumn.
  • Several surprize addon releases are expected during 2022.
  • New propeller simulation, including prop wash, is coming to Cessna and King Air aircraft with Sim Update 8.
  • Several complex 3rd party aircraft are coming within the upcoming months.
  • 3rd party aircraft platform for Xbox Series X|S is coming within 6 months, until then, PMDG DC-6 is not available for console.
  • DLSS support is coming later this year for DirectX 12 mode.
  • Sim Update 9, coming in April, is focusing only on stability issues.
  • Performace drop issues during long-haul flights will be looked out for Sim Update 9.
  • The next Developer Q&A will be at the end of February, just before Sim Update 8.

I did hear something about DLSS in VR supporting eye-tracking so it concentrates the major resolution only to region where eyes are currently looking, which would be another major frame-rate and quality improvement. Not sure if this is going to be implemented/supported in this though. Would be great if it was.

Does anyone actually use MSFS just on a desktop monitor?? If DLSS is not in VR, then its a waste of time for most flight-sim users who mostly use some VR headset.

I'd bet most people play MSFS on a desktop monitor.
Does anyone actually 'mostly use some VR headset'?
There is no group of users 'who mostly use some VR headset', including "all VR headset owners" as a group.

Itll probably come to VR but they would really have to improve on dx12 in vr for it to be as exciting as it should be, as dx11 is much faster.
