ASMedia to Launch USB4 Host-Controllers This Year

ASMedia seemsto be the first company to release a USB4 host-controller. The ASM4242 is said to have a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and support up to 64 Gbps of bandwidth. Backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and DP Alt Mode.

Utilizing the advantages of AMD and Intel, the high-speed transmission IC manufacturer Xiangshuo (5269) launched the world's exclusive, comprehensive, high-standard main control (ASM4242) and device (ASM2464PD) control chips, which can be owned by Xiangshuo's USB4 chip Multi-functional integration of high-speed data, video and power transmission, USB 4.0 HOST products are expected to send samples in May and June this year, and complete customer verification in the fourth quarter.

Lin Zhewei, general manager of Xiangshuo Technology, said that after the introduction of the USB4 specification, it has become the technical target of various IC design manufacturers. The writing speed can approach 40Gb/s at the highest, and supports both PCIe Gen4 and Thunderbolt3.

USB 4 provides high-speed channels, and achieves related applications such as data transmission, audio and video, and power supply, and has the latest specifications and is backward compatible. The ASM4242 chip on the main control end connection port is PCIe Gen4x4, the bandwidth is up to 64Gb/s, the downstream end is two USB 4 TYPE-C ports, the bandwidth is up to 40Gb/s, and it also cuts into DP, which is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 transmission regulations.

The device-side ASM2464PD chip is connected to the main control end via USB 4 TYPE-C, downlink PCIe Gen4x4, and integrates PD (Power Delivery) control chip. The Power Delivery (PD) control chip included in the device side of the USB4 products of Xiangshuo has passed the complete test of a third-party professional testing organization and obtained the certification of the USB-IF Association. This chip is also the first PD launched by Xiangshuo. Control chip, expect to launch more series products of PD control chip in the future.
