It most certainly has had a good run for roughly 10 years, but today Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows Vista. Windows Vista goes down in history as one of the least popular Windows versions, ever.

As successor to the popular Windows XP, Vista was presented as a new revolutionary OS for the home user, with a completely new management and appearance. As it turned out, Vista was a bit .. well let's call it 'heavy' for the average PC,' as it had hefty system requirements. The lack of support from hardware and peripherals such as printers and video cards, was a significant problem as well. It however set the groundwork for what was to become Windows 7.

As the story goes, it was an expensive ordeal for Microsoft. The development of Vista (started in 2001) and Microsoft had to their own admission $6 billion in cost. Fortunately for Microsoft, Windows 7 was a great success. Perhaps that was Windows Vista done right.
