Apple targets Epic Games, claiming that its store will not turn a profit until 2027.
In the midst of a heated legal dispute between Apple and Epic Games, Apple's attorneys have just added more fuel to the flames with their most recent claims.
In response to Epic's claim that the Epic Games Store is comparable to Apple's App Store, Apple's lawyers attacked the company with numbers that reflect the significant losses that the EGS is causing, claiming that the two stores "do not compare in absolute terms" because the Epic store "will not be profitable for many years, if not ever" As if that weren't enough, forecasts indicate that the Epic Games Store will generate its first profits only in 2027, under the best of circumstances. Yes, even under the best-case scenario, they will suffer hundreds of millions of dollars in losses for the next eight years.
While Apple's statements are not particularly contextual and are merely intended to make Epic look bad, the lawyers for the company also noted that "“while Epic's commissions are lower than Apple's, they do not offer all the services that Apple provides. EGS is basically a showcase, it does not have the functions that make the App Store a platform desired by consumers and developers ”. As a showcase, the EGS does not provide the features that users and developers look for in an app store.
The struggle is still waging, and this is only the first chapter of what will be many more to come. It will be interesting to see when this legal war comes to a close and what effects it produces, but all indications point to it not being completed anytime soon.

I have 27 games on Epic.....2 of which i paid for and the other 25 were and are......FREE, as for the app....i really dont see what the issue is with EGS, if you have an issue with privacy perhaps you should live in a cave and wear a tinfoil hat.
Just picked up A Plague Tale: Innocence for free(no rent)
I guess you didn't get the point.
Privacy is a right granted to individuals that underpins the freedoms of expression, association and assembly all of which are essential for a free and democratic society.
It's also not like I was telling you that you have to avoid EGS. If you value your "free" games provided by EGS to be more worth than your privacy, then this is your decision to make. But it's not OK to misframe the whole debate by your invalid argument.

It's not free. You rent their games, if we are taking about DRM-Protected games that are being claimed for "free".
And it's not free, because you pay with your privacy by using EGS alone.
I assume you have no issue with Steam, Origin or Uplay then? Or is it only an issue if they use your data in the same manner as EGS does but charge you for the games instead of giving you them for nothing?

Uses internet, assume you have a smart phone, you've never bought anything from ANY retailer EVER that's asked for your details? I mean if you seriously think you've managed or have actually managed to keep everything about you private then more power to you but this whole privacy thing is one of the WEAKEST arguments I've seen about why people won't use EGS, especially given that there ARE actual legit reasons not to use the service.
I thought this argument between these two had been wrapped up... well more it just seemed to fizzle away to nothing! But nope here we are Apple still trying to say that their store policy isn't a big ole pile of sh*te and Epic still trying to dictate how others run their stores. I wonder how much the free games have been factored in to whatever numbers Apple is pulling out of it's a*s to justify this rather weak line of counter argument?

Epic annouced something else today.
Epic Games Store Self-Publishing Closed Beta Opens Today!
They seem to have more strict rules, which may prevent asset flips and other shovelware like Steam is littered with.
