Apple 20MW solar farm gets photographed

Apple is building a massive data center in Maiden, North Carolina along with a 20MW solar panel array that will supply 60 percent of the site's electricity requirements. The project is still under construction, but a local TV station shot an aerial video that shows the massive scale of this solar farm. The solar panels and trackers come from California’s SunPower. SunPower makes higher efficiency solar panels, which are placed on trackers that follow the sun throughout the day.

A 20MW solar farm isn't something you see everyday, but it's not nearly the largest solar power station in the world. That title currently belongs to the Agua Caliente Solar Project in Yuma County, Arizona, which has a maximum capacity of 247MW completed as of August 2012. The project will be further expanded to 397W, and by the end of 2014 India plans to finish its 500MW Charanka Solar Park in the Patan district, northern Gujarat. Thanks DVHardware for this spot.

I'm glad they're turning to natural energy sources. It takes up quite a bit of land.
