AOC AG251FZ with 240 Hz TN Now Available

AOC AG251FZ with 240 Hz TN Now Available

We've seen a number of 1080p monitors already with ridiculously high refresh rates. AOC is adding one as well, the AG251FZ has 24.5-inch 240 Hz TN panel. The product obviously is a gaming monitor and as such positioned in their AGON line-up.

AOC’s fastest AGON gaming monitor yet is now available in stores. The AOC AGON AG251FZ boasts a refresh rate of 240 Hz, 1 ms response time and Adaptive-Sync, ensuring super smooth gameplay without motion blur, screen tearing or stuttering. Premium features such as the AOC Ergo Dial Base and the AOC QuickSwitch controller offer an added level of comfort to competitive gamers.

Smoothness to the max

With its 25″ Full HD TN panel (16:9 format, 1920 x 1080 pixels), the AOC AGON AG251FZ is not just an attractive choice for esports contestants who want a slightly bigger screen than the standard 24″ size. It also offers them a blazing fast display performance. The 240 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time allow for extremely smooth gameplay and graphics without motion blur at any time, even in fast-paced scenes. In addition, Adaptive-Sync synchronises the display with compatible graphics cards in order to eliminate screen tearing or display-induced stuttering. Gamers looking for a maximum of responsiveness will also benefit from the AOC Low Input Lag Mode, which bypasses most of the monitor’s internal video processing. This way, players can see their control inputs reflected on-screen immediately, which  can be a considerable advantage in competitive action games.

Premium features for esports pros

Like all monitors of the AGON series, the AG251FZ comes with a selection of premium features to increase comfort, wellbeing and performance of professional gamers. These include a retractable headset holder, the AOC Ergo Dial Base with tilt, swivel and height adjustment (height scale included) and a carry handle for easy transportation. Moreover, AOC Flicker Free technology reduces flickering to prevent eyestrain during extended gaming sessions. In order to adapt the display image to specific games, the AG251FZ also offers a variety of game modes (e.g. for FPS, racing and RTS titles) as well as the AOC Shadow Control option to brighten extremely dark areas without affecting the rest of the screen. The AOC QuickSwitch controller bundled with the monitor allows for easy adjustment of all settings on the fly.

The AOC AGON AG251FZ is now available. The MSRP is £449.

So this again is a TN (Twisted Nematic) WLED panel at that 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution. it comes with 170/160° viewing angles, 400 cd/m² typical maximum brightness, a 1000:1 static contrast and thus that native (correct not overclocked) 240Hz refresh rate. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified for the monitor.

The monitor does support AMD FreeSync, well ... DP Adaptive-Sync with compatible graphics cards. The range to do so is a 48 – 240Hz variable refresh rate range, that starting point of 48Hz  for FreeSync is disappointing though. The monitor will come with a 100 x 100mm VESA mount and connectivity wise you will spot 3.5mm microphone jack, 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 3.0 ports (1 with fast-charging). Then there is DSUB, HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2a (supports Adaptive-Sync) and an extra two 2 USB 3.0 ports. 3W speakers are also included.

With HDMI 2.0 supported you can use it or a DP 1.2a port to get support up to 1920 x 1080 at 240Hz. The monitor will sit just above the 500 Euro marker (incl VAT).

So they have the same product but instead with 144hz and it costs 220-250 euro, 96hz extra costs you over double the price, not a good deal to be honest.

The decrease in motion blur isn't so great. At 240Hz there's still substantial blur, and not much of an improvement over 144Hz. What I'm waiting for is a 240Hz with adjustable strobing... And a day when we can use Gsync and strobing at the same time.
