Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to come in late October

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to come in late October

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is scheduled to release in the late October timeframe. Google I/O came and went, but everyone kept wondering where Android 5.0 was. Everyone had the same question, when will Google launch the next version of the world’s most popular OS? Reports started coming in that the company will instead release a stop-gap Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The latest news from sources at Vrzone report that Google will take the wraps off their truly next-generation Android OS, a.k.a 5.0 Key Lime Pie some time in late October. I take the liberty to remind you folks that October happens to be the rumored time-of-appearance for the Motorola X Phone, and the absence of a new Nexus Smartphone only feeds more fuel to our report (fire). A Nexus 5 introduction along with the debut of a new version of Android isn’t unheard of, Google did the exact same thing with the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (which serves as the foundation of the current and upcoming Jelly Bean builds), both were simultaneously launched in the November of 2011 reports vr-zone.

sources left us with some more info regarding the OS. Android 5.0 will be an optimized OS and will run well even on devices with 512 MB of RAM. The last time that happened, we were in 2010 running Gingerbread (Android 2.3). Perhaps this is Google’s next big push, optimizing the crap out of their (admittedly unoptimized) OS. If Apple’s iOS can do it, if Microsoft’s Windows Phone can do it, why can’t Google make an optimized OS that runs well on a moderate 512 MB of RAM?

The question remains though, has Google given up on Nexus devices from its own stable? With the recent introduction of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Edition (Nexus-like) Smartphones (with a rumored Xperia Z on the way as well), Google may have found solace in their new approach. Well, I guess we’ll find out all the answers towards the end of the year.

They have had names since the third version (cupcake) and have been desserts since. The first 2 never had names at all.
