AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7 7800X3D "Zen 4" gaming CPU is starting to show up in online benchmark databases, revealing impressive performance scores.

The 8-core/16-thread processor comes equipped with 64 MB of 3D Vertical Cache, taking its L3 cache size up to an impressive 96 MB, and total cache up to 104 MB. The chip has shown up on the SiSoftware SANDRA online database, where it was tested on an MSI MEG X670E Ace motherboard, and obtained a score of 395.07 GOPS, with 527.56 GIPS dhrystone INT, 552.04 GIPS dhrystone long, 316 GFLOP/s whetstone single-precision floating point, and 264.71 GFLOP/s whetstone double-precision floating point. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the most anticipated 8-core Zen4 desktop processor equipped with 3D V-Cache. This is the third X3D SKU, and the only Ryzen 7000 CPU that has not been released yet. It has a unique design, with only one 8-core chiplet and an extra layer of 3D V-Cache on one chiplet, resulting in an uneven chiplet design. AMD has come up with a software solution that prioritizes either the frequency or the cache, eliminating the need for such algorithms in the 7800X3D.

Tom's Hardware has compared the 7800X3D score to existing 7000 SKUs and last-gen 5800X3D, a true predecessor for the new part. The results show that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D Zen4 SKU is 37.3% faster than the 5800X3D Zen3 model when aggregated 'Score' is compared. The 7800X3D offers the lowest CPU frequency out of all Ryzen 7000 SKUs, going up to 5.0 GHz, but even in the leaks, the processor boosts slightly above these specs to 5.05 GHz.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is set to launch on April 6th at $449, making it more expensive than the 7700X SKU and even $20 more than the 7900. Despite this, the processor is expected to perform exceptionally well in gaming and other cache-favoring workloads. Its predecessor, the 5800X3D, was already able to beat the fastest Intel processor of its time, the i9-12900K, and the 7800X3D has the task of surpassing the i9-13900K in gaming performance.
