AMD ZEN Engineering Sample Shows Promising Perf

AMD ZEN Engineering Sample Shows Promising Perf

In the Ashes of the Singularity-benchmark database a couple of product codes appeared with corresponding benchmark results. They appear to be ZEN engineering samples that can be recognized by their OPN number. The results already have been removed.

The OPN numbers are 1D2801A2M88E4_32/28_N and 2D2801A2M88E4_32/28_N. Apparently the last parts (in bold) represent the clock and turbo frequency. Engineering samples always run at lower clocks, and that makes the results quite promising.

The samples thus run at a 2.8 GHz base and 3.2 GHz Turbo clock frequency. The benchmark database screenshot clearly shows these CPU have 8-cores / 16 threads indicating a "Summit Ridge" processor.  If you compare a bit back and forth you'll notice that even at these speeds the ZEN 1D would run roughly 38% faster compared to an AMD FX-8350. Compared to a Core i5 4670K (3.4/3.8 GHz) and Core i7 4790 (3.6/4.0 GHz) the ZEN processors zit smackdown in the middle.

Combined with the fact that AMD could really utilize the new 14 nm FinFET fab process and increase clocks make this new about ZEN very promising. AMD Zen is expected to be released later this year with initial batches and likely mass volume in early 2017. Courtesy goes out to wccftech who discovered this find and where able to chart it up.

looking good :)

hopefully this is either an early sample with lower clocks or this is a mid range SKU.

I was hoping for around 3.6GHz base and 4GHz boost. By the looks of it that would put it beyond the Intel i7.

Hoping these are decent clockers too, any news on if their BCLK will be unlocked or will we just have the multiplier to play with?

Hopefully this is 4c/8t Zen, otherwise the result is just awful.

From the article.

Hey it's not that shabby even if it's 8 cores. Does run at a mere 3.2GHz.

Yes! It doesn't suck! Well, Zen is on its way to become my next CPU :D

I wonder if there'll be GPU-less Zen CPUs in the future as well. Smaller siz and lower energy consumption or more space for extra cores and/or larger caches.

Remember the source: WCCFTECH

Still interesting. Engineering samples can be lower clock from what the finished product will be. Hopefully the fabs will perform to the level hoped for. Wait and see.
