AMD Tonga at 28 nm will fight with the GM107
AMD Tonga has been rumored ever since this time last year in 2013, however rumors now indicate that the long awaited part is to be released at 28nm to take on the battle with NVIDIA's GM107. GM107 is the Maxwell based part from Nvidia which houses in the GeForce GTX 750 series.
Over the weekend some more rumors surfaced stating that the product will become a scaled down version of Hawaii and it should will be released in the weeks to come, a product with a 256 Bit memory bus. The card is speculated to be very power efficient and is based on GCN 2.0 architecture. In fact we think it might replace the current Radeon R9 280 and 280X.

Agree. They will need a new architecture for the 20nm production process.
Tahiti is ready for retirement. It's had a nice, long run. Still a strong GPU, but I think we can all agree that it's time for something new.

^ can't agree more. 290(x) was not high enough improvement for me in the end.
