AMD to launch Radeon HD 8000 in 2Q13

AMD to launch Radeon HD 8000 in 2Q13

AMD reportedly plans to release its Radon HD 8000 series GPUs in the second quarter of 2013 as the company is currently going through a business reorganization to aid its poor performance in the third quarter, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. AMD originally planned to release the GPU series at the end of the fourth quarter to compete against Nvidia's products.

As Nvidia has been successfully gaining in China's discrete graphics card market, AMD's share already dropped to only 30% in the market and it is aggressively trying to launch the Radeon HD 8000 series to regain its momentum. To counter AMD's advance, Nvidia is also set to release enhanced version of Kepler GPUs in 2013. Meanwhile, for the ARM-based processor market, Nvidia is set to release Tegra 4 (Wayne) in the first half of 2013 and the chip will also be showcased at CES 2013. As for Icera communications chips integrated on the Tegra SoC (Grey), the product will appear in the market in the second half of 2013, at the earliest.

By Delaying what was supposed to be release this year until next, i don't see how they expect to make more money this way.

Given that the time it takes Nvidia to retail another series and flagship card, any delay for the competitors means less time they are able to sell cards directly competing with Nvidia's current lineup.

Of course its a given that Nvidias next series will perform better than this card from ATI.. so why not market it immediately as intended vs the 6xx series while you can instead of waiting for a 7xx to come out and upstage you shortly after you release the 8000?

Really looking at decisions like this is almost seems to me like AMD WANTS to go into receivership... I just don't get decisions like this.

that is so bad...if rumors are correct gtx 780 will be twice as fast as gtx 580...

That would be sad, that's faster then gtx680 by how much, 20%? I expect gtx690 performance, i need to upgrade and i want to do it big. Maybe i'll wait another series if that's the case.

Comeback? AMD HD 7000 series ware kicking ass in every way...dont read before post?

Here in Spain, if you look at it purely fps/$, Nvidia has always been ahead.
400 vs 5000 series, 500 vs 6000 series and 600 vs 7000 series. Maybe some exceptions, but generally that's how it's been for the last years.
I'd love to see AMD in front of Nvidia for once. That's all, no fanboyism in any way.

LOL that's an epic dream pal...it's a refresh...both AMD and NVIDIA have a target purpose of 15-30% improved performance from current generation... :)

major new architecture we are gonna see at hd9000 series / gtx800 series.
