AMD Threadripper PRO CPUs available to consumers this March

AMD Threadripper PRO CPUs available to consumers this March

AMD will sell its Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors to consumers. The CPUs with up to 64 cores were released last year, but were only available to system builders.

AMD announced its Threadripper PRO CPUs in July last year, but so far they have not been available separately. Only system builders could buy the processors and equip complete systems with them. To use the Threadripper PRO processors, different motherboards are required than for the regular variants. Earlier today we showed an ASUS WRX80 motherboard, in which the PRO variants fit.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors will now be directly available to consumers through participating global retailers, e-tailers, and system integrators with on-shelf availability expected in March 2021. Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors offer an unmatched feature set to workstation customers with up to 64 cores, 8 channels of memory, RDIMM and LRDIMM support, 128 PCIe Gen 4 lanes, and AMD PRO security technologies.

Hmm the 3955WX has an awful low boost clock for being 280W. I bet that thing will be an OC beast and with 8 channel memory I'd wager a guess that it will be the gaming king too.

OC beast ? if you use LN2 I guess, current threadripper go from 280 to 440+watts for like +100Mhz too many cores for OC
39xx threadripper were bad at gaming (lots of stuttering and fps drop) so those will definitely be too, I was expecting a 5900X series not a more pro plateform :/

you're right I was getting confused reading it the wrong way. These are still on Zen 2.

That 8-channel ram ought to pretty much do away with the need to overclock system ram, imo. Some of these things will hold 2 TBs of ram in a single-socket config! The performance must be unreal. Also--with 64 cores/128t--if you have the software that will make use of those threads then CPU overclocking seems entirely superfluous...as you'll murder everything else on the market. Lenovo has an interesting offer featured on AnandTech right now, if you're interested.

Still using Zen 2... That sucks.. I wanted to get the new 32 core however on Zen 3. I assume they will come out next year then or they skip Zen 3 for Zen 4 with their threadrippers.
