Zen 4 processors will be based on TSMC's 5nm node and could arrive in early 2022, hopefully with more IPC gains as seen with Zen 3.

AMD might have just released their new Zen 3 architecture that powers the Ryzen 5000 series, with its new flagship Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core, 32-thread, 4.9 GHz CPU for $ 799, insane. But it AMD is not finished and is already looking ahead. The company plans to keep tripling Intel next year with Zen 3, securing dominance until 2022, the year in which AMD would launch Zen 4 to combat anything Intel may present. In fact, AMD could rule the CPU market until 2023. The company is working closely with TSMC for the production of Zen 4 processors at 5nm. AMD has not yet detailed anything about the new Zen 4 architecture.

In a new interview, AMD Executive Vice President Rick Bergman spoke to The Street and said:

“Given the maturity of the x86 architecture now, the answer has to be, more or less, all of the above. If you looked at our whitepaper on Zen 3, it was this long list of things we did to get that 19% (IPC gain). Zen 4 is going to have a long list of similar things, in which everything from caches to branch prediction is analyzed. Everything is analyzed to squeeze more performance ”.

"Certainly the manufacturing process opens an additional door for us to get better performance per watt and so on, and we will take advantage of that as well."
