AMD takes 60% of the workstation market with Threadripper
AMD appears to be gaining a foothold in the workstation sector. AMD's Ryzen and Threadripper processors are currently the first pick for most professionals, according to data from Puget Systems (one of the most popular workstation providers). According to sales figures from June 2021, AMD processors were used in almost 60% of the systems sold.
Intel was entirely dominating this industry just four years ago, with AMD on the verge of extinction. Although AMD launched the Threadripper line in late 2017 with the 1900X, 1920X, and 1950X, it took until early 2020 to catch up with the debut of third-generation Threadrippers with up to 64 cores.
By the end of 2020, AMD split the HEDT (High End Desktop) market in half, 50/50, with Threarippers chips on one hand and Extreme Edition Core i9 chips on the other. For the first time in two decades, AMD took control of the majority of the market in early 2021. Threadrippers currently account for more than 60% of all workstations sold at Puget. Intel is unable to compete in this market due to AMD's significant edge in terms of processors and performance pricing. Intel's monolithic method would result in negative profit margins, thus it can't offer the same amount of cores (for the time being).

No real suprises here, that CPU is a must for companies in this arena, and working from home? A lot of game developers got a boost because of this chip...sadly not me

since nvme drives optic fiber 10gbit etc many where asking for more cpu lanes
amd gave us pcie 4.0 and more cpu lanes, intel stayed on barely enough for a single gpu pcie 3.0 and slightly more useable but not that good HEDT worst decision ever in the industry
can't wait for TR 5000

Intel stagnated for far too long and basically gave this market away with their pricing they've gotten better but not enough to compete last I checked

Lisa Su predictions were correct.
HEDT needed badly a breakthrough, more cores at a reasonable price.
AMD delivered and more. Future will show if data centers will adopt Rome and other iterations of AMD server platforms.
