AMD surpassed Intels market share in desktop processors
Read it well, desktop, and not notebook. But yeah that something very interesting is happing you've been able to witness for the past three years now.
AMD surpassed Intel in terms of market share desktop processors, the data however is limited and based on published results from PassMark. PassMark Software's benchmarking results for the first quarter of 2021 show that AMD took a 50.8% share of the global desktop CPU market, leaving Intel at 49.2%.
The last time the AMD had taken the lead was in the first quarter of 2006, although that only lasted a quarter.
When you combine all results on all segments, Intel has a clear lead, but certainly, the trend has shifted. 62% for Intel, and 38% for AMD.
Things are different in the notebook segment, Intel here still leads with a huge 84% share, AMD thus at 16%. The difference is even more pronounced in the server segment, where Intel has 98.6%, while AMD takes the remaining 1.4%. However, with EPYC, that number might change fast as well.
Of course, the numbers are limited by demographic, as they are solely based on PassMark entries. Would you look at the gamer side of things and compare with Steam results, for example, the difference would be just that, very different.

Imagine how much more AMD would lead if they actually had CPU's in stock? How many people wanting an upgrade have just said screw it and went with a 10xxx Intel instead of waiting or paying scalpers?

It is from a benchmark but it's a lot of data collected over a long period of time. I'm sure it's correlated to actual sales numbers. That being said, this doesn't mean AMD actually has a higher market share, but, they're on their way to it.

Not surprising at all considering how popular Ryzens are in Amazon best buy lists for example. If you take German, UK and US Amazon, it's usually at least 2:1 to AMD in the top 20 best sellers (it's actually 3: 1 on UK Amazon, in Germany, it's currently 11:9 to Intel, maybe because of higer prices - usually the German Amazon is the highest % towards AMD out of the 3 mentioned countries, it's an exception now), in the top 10 best sellers, it's usually 7 or 8 AMD against 2 or 3 Intels. In the top 5, it's 4 AMD against 1 Intel (currently 3-2 in Germany). In the top 3, there are usually only Ryzens (2-1 in Germany atm).
And have CPUs below MSRP! Ryzen 3600 was way under $200 months ago, now it's MSRP priced with $200. Yet, they are still selling like hot cakes.

AMD should prepare for another 15 years of losing to intel then...big things are coming...
by the way desktops sales are nothing compare to mobile ones... so...
Fanboi ?
Amd is catching up on the Mobile front as well dont forget compared to Intel they are Tiny plus they play on GPU, Server and CPU fronts, currently they beat Intel on pretty much all fronts and the new Mobile chips will counter Intels new releases, the main issue is not the chips etc its the Incentives Intel passed on and still do to this Day toi advertise more and use inferior specced screens etc with AMD CPUs however the tide is very much on the turn and suppliers cannot ignore the customer who pays for the product they want
