AMD says it is out of stock to replace faulty Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs

AMD says it is out of stock to replace faulty Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs

The high-end AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU has been overheated due to defective cooler issues, and the company has admitted as much.

As it seems AMD now has run out of XTX stock due to replacements. Emails from users who had questions for AMD were the source of the following data. One email informs the buyer that the wait time may go beyond two weeks, while another admits ignorance about when more inventory would be available. Only the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX reference model has had the overheating problem, not the few cards sold by partners.

"We understand that you want to trade in your RX 7900 XTX. It is important that you know that currently we cannot change your graphics card, since we do not have stock available in our warehouses. We can start the process as soon as the stock is renewed. But we currently don't have an estimated restock date. If you prefer a refund, we can start the process right away and send you the label to send us the graphics card. If you wish to wait for an RMA, please provide the following information:

– Maximum temperature and current temperature of the GPU
– How long does it take to reach that temperature?
– What application (game/benchmark/stress test) were you using when you noticed the temperature increase?"

“We are committed to resolving this issue with the affected cards. Customers experiencing these high temperatures should contact AMD Support ( https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-call )."

There was so much hope for both the next gen CPU and GPU releases, both have had their issues, the GPU more so than the CPU it would seem, but for me the huge spoonfuls of misleading hype prior to both launches is as much to blame.
Taking price out of the equation for a second, Both NV and AMD promised much prior to their GPU launches and the only shining star is the 4090. In fact its power consumption and thermals are probably better than many anticipated.
Let's hope AMD get back on track with the 7***X3D series.

Actually, I guess I'd take a refund, and buy either a card made by a board partner, or something else (like a 4050Ti with a troll face sticker on it, sarcasm).
Or AMD could actually just buy 3rd party cards too and send them out to people. But they won't do that, that would cost money... like a 1000$ GPU did.

No, seriously, I guess a refund sounds fair.

I'd take a refund straight away and then buy a next gen card if they're more affordable, or get a better deal in the second hand market.

I don't think defective coolers are part of the hype equations.
The cards do seems to perform correctly for the price bracket, yes unlucky coolers than need to be swapped with functional cooler.

.
Not the sole reason but all the minor set backs are cumulative.
NV, AMD and Intel have all made huge errors with hardware releases recently.
In fact the only hardware release in the last 12 months that continues to receive positive feedback from everybody is the 5800X3D
