We hope you are enjoying our Threadripper 3960X and 3970X reviews. But as mentioned in these articles, AMD is also releasing a Threadripper 3990X with wait for it ... 64 cores, however, that will be next year.

Earlier chatter indicated that AMD would reveal the 3990X in January during CES, but AMD has shifted the announcement momentum forward towards today. The 64-headed beast will get 128 threads, and that is unprecedented as that is still tagged as a consumer-level processor, which by the way will work on the TRX40 chipset (we confirmed with AMD). Just like the Threadripper 3960X (review) and 3970X (review), the future chip would get a 280W TDP.

More details about the Threadripper 3990X are expected in the coming months, obviously, it is based on Rome (the 64-core Epyc proc). For the time being, AMD only mentions that the processor will be released next year. When that will be or how much the CPU will cost is not yet known.
