AMD Ryzen Goes Preorder Today + Die Shot + Info and Event Demo Benchmark Videos

Today AMD Ryzen 7 processors go on pre-order for next week, both motherboard and an initial three processors will be available next week. Over at a Ryzen event in California AMDs CEO Lisa Su made several announcements that we can now share with you.

In this news item we’ll walk you through the initial three models released, the prices as well as a number of benchmark videos I just took at the event. One small teaser, IPC perf is up 52% not 40% according to AMD claims.It should be not secret, Ryzen launches really soon, the first series released will be the Ryzen 7 processors, these processors are in fact that Ryzen 7 1700, 1700X and 1800X. The three processors launched are all 8-core processors with 16 threads in a variety of clock frequencies.

All processors will be unlocked, the Ryzen 7 1700 processor will get a 65 Watt TDP, the 1700X and 1800X will be 96 Watt TDP products. The prices aside from a tenner have been spot on based on the earlier leaked information you guys have seen. In the weeks to follow you will see more announcements.

The flagship Ryzen 7 1800X will be the flagship product, it will get it’s 8 cores clocked at a base-clock of 3.6 GHz and indeed gets a 4.0 GHz Turbo. This is a 95 Watt (TDP) processor, the final price … 499 USD.
The Ryzen 7 1700X will get a base clock of 3.4 GHz and a turbo to 3.8 GHz. This CPU again has a 95 Watt TDP and is going to cost you 399 USD.
At launch next week, the biggest hit probably is going to be the Ryzen 7 1700 processor, it will be a proper gaming CPU that clocks in at a 3.0 GHz base clock and a nice 3.7 GHz Boost clock. This processor only has a 65 Watt TDP, again 65 Watt for a proper 8-core processor. This unit as well is unlocked and the pricing now is confirmed to be 329 USD.

Starting today you can preorder the processors and motherboards with full availability next week March 2nd. We’ve seen and tested these units, and yes it’s all very impressive. AMD Ryzen master utility - You guys all know how tweaking works in the Crimson drivers, that same methodology has been applied on the processor front. More details on tweaking you may expect next week, but the preliminary tweaking results that I have seen are impressive. On the motherboard front you can expect a thing or two as well, obviously you have seen many motherboards leaked/posted already. But there will be over 80+ models to choose from in the coming weeks as all board partners are going wide and diverse.

In my honest opinion two processors at launch will be a massive success. Both perform great, the 1800X at 499 USD is going to be a kick-ass processors that can compete with Intel’s counterpart. The Ryzen 7 1700 however is a 329 USD processor that remains to be unlocks and likely is easily tweaked towards the 1800X. That processor also only has a 65 Watt TDP. Interesting times are ahead of us short term alright.

Now during the presentation Su also showed a couple of performance benchmarks done live. I have recorded these videos available for you, shaky cam, my apologies for that but you get the generic idea. It seems that Ryzen is going to for full all desires and needs that you guys wished and hoped for. Have a peek, and then next week during availability we’ll have our review up as well.

In the videos below some live demo sessions of mostly the Ryzen 7 1800X pitted against the Core i7 6900K processor. The results have been nothing short of impressive.

In the video above Lisa Su talks AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (329 USD) Versus Core i7 7700 (350 USD) in Handbrake. The Ryzen 1700 wins by 10 seconds.

In this video you can see Sniper Elite 4 Running on Ryzen 7 1800X versus Intel Core i7 6900K. The framerate is pretty much equal, sometimes faster.

The last video then, Battlefield 1 running On Ryzen 7 1800X versus a Core i7 6900K. Again very similar performance for a 499 versus 1200 USD processor.

AMD will launch the Wraith Spire, a new cooling solution for select Ryzen processors.

Starting today the Ryzen 7 series is available for pre-order, with full availability next later week. By that time we'll also have a review ready for you guys to tell you a thing or two about performance, energy consumetions and yeah well, the entire view on this new and exciting processor series from AMD. I can tell you already, it will not dissapoint as this much performance at these price levels is going to be downright great.
