AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and 3rd Gen Threadripper are Hard To Get Processors

The success of anything with a ZEN2 chip slowly but steadily is becoming an issue, the issue being volume availability. These days over 60% of tech-savvy potential new processor buyers opt for an AMD Ryzen processor, and that causes high demand with accompanying prices.

There is something else to factor in, AMD is fabbing the ZEN2 dies at 7nm, and that means limited production runs. While demand is increasing, the volume availability goes down or is even depleted. I've been monitoring our forums where quite a number of people would like to purchase a 16-core 3950X processor, most of them face the harsh reality that the processors are very hard to find, and you know it .. demand increases prices as well.

  • Made available since yesterday, the 749 USD costing Ryzen 9 3950X started selling, if you can find it (and that is a big if), you will have noticed it started selling at 829 EUR, today you need to pay 939 EUR already as prices are on the rise/ryze, and still are rising.
  • The 24-core Ryzen Threadripper 3960X is listed at € 1519 to € 9999 (?) and the 32-core 3970X € 2194 to € 2369. Most of these products are in backorder.

Regular processor look a bit more okay, in stock. Ryzen 7 3700X sells at €325, the Ryzen 9 3900X starts at €577. The prices obviously vary per region a bit. If interested, you might want to sit it out for a couple of weeks until volume picks up.
