It's worth remembering that Zen4 is really just Zen3 ported to 5nm - I guess the reason they call it Zen4 is because of the addition of AVX512 - Zen 5 will likely be the next major improvement.

I imagine clock for clock, performance will be similar, with IPC improvements only being related to the cache increases

there are substantial uArch changes, not least in the caches, a lower real world tdp
this is not a refresh and it's more substantial than the Zen 2+ was to Zen 2

Yes, it's mostly just additional cache increases - the major changes stem from the iodie

Many here seem to crave only the 3d cache versions but i don`t think they are anything special.

Sure, they offer a very nice performance bump when gaming, the only reason why i buy good hardware, but that increase becomens minimal when using real resolutions.

Even worse, the price difference between the "normal" versions and the ones with 3d cache is so big that for me is better to buy the cheaper CPU and use the difference to buy a better GPU.

This is just my opinion anyway.

As for the new line up, the 7700x seems perfect but it`s a little more expensive than i want and with the high prices of MBs, i`m asking myself if it`s worth the money.

The problem is that Intel is going to charge the same or even more...

i finally had a look at X670 (non E) mobos and - they're no more expensive than AL (w/DDR4) or X570 (actually cheaper on avg as "E" takes on all of the ones with steroidal VRMs).

the biggest drag on the non "E" board sales is that DDR 5 6000 magic point. 6000Mhz is still expensive

Would be cool to own a 7700X or 7900X but I prefer a GPU than CPU upgrade this generation, 5900X still works fine.
