I'm not very impressed to be honest.

Looking at 7900X, for 5nm process, 58% more transistors, almost 1GHz more clock and 70% more consumption they managed an average of 20-25% more fps in gaming at 1080p.

Not to mention the IPC gain is just ridiculous.

RAM and GPU are also involved in a PC.

Boing by AMD's presentation, they seem to be very powerful CPUs.
It's going to be very interesting seeing the benchmarks between Zen4 and Alder Lake. And then against Raptor Lake.
I wonder if AMD can release a 7800X3D in time for the Raptor Lake release.

I was expecting to see something regarding AM4. But it was all about Zen4. :(

No 7800 info, because it's probably the most reasonable out of all these options.
No 7800X3D info, because it's probably the best gaming CPU of AMD's generation.

Maybe it's just me, but for a gamer, it feels like they just want you to suck up and either buy a CPU bigger than you want, or smaller than you'd want.
At least I'm pretty positive that at some point, you'll be able to upgrade without having to change MB / RAM.
But right now, it doesn't really look like I'd want a day 1 buy tbh.

I'll wait for the 3D variations to come out. From this point on, in my opinion (as far as AMD CPUs go) 3D variations are too important to spend any big money on the 'regular' ones.

It requires the move to another AM socket, so new Motherboard, then DDR5 so buy new memory again, then the CPU itself. It's a lot especially nowadays with the prices. So if anything yeah I'll wait for the 3D variations to come out and then judge from that point if I want to do such an upgrade or not. However, I think that for anyone currently owning Ryzen Gen 3 CPUs you'd be fine keeping that and just upgrade your GPU instead to the next gen. That's a single upgrade and it would overall result in a much better performance improvement (for gaming, at least) than a mere Ryzen 3 to 4 move would provide (especially for gaming at 1440p and above).
