AMD Quickly Deletes Blog Post Where it Disqualifies 4GB graphics cards

The Radeon RX 6500 XT is about to be launched, it has 4GB of graphics memory and I can already share that the card ain't a pretty sight. 4GB is a laughable amount of VRAM for any gaming graphics card in the year 2022.

AMD already has been feeling the heat as back in 2020 they released the 5500 XT, with 8GB graphics memory and some juice marketing slides to go with it. Kit guru noticed that AMD has abruptly abandoned the notion of 4GB being a bottleneck for games. As the business unexpectedly deleted their 2020 blog entry addressing this issue. The blog post that was taken down from the AMD Community website was part of a marketing campaign for the Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB graphics card, which is no longer available.  AMD all of the sudden (today) removed its blog entry. Right before introducing the Radeon RX 6500 XT with 4GB VRAM. However, on the internet, everything is always cached, of course.

AMD is leading the industry at providing gamers with high VRAM graphics solutions across the entire product offering. Competitive products at a similar entry level price-point are offering up to a maximum of 4GB of VRAM, which is evidently not enough for todays games. Go Beyond 4GB of Video Memory to Crank Up your settings. Play on RadeonTM RX Series GPUs with 6GB or 8GB of VRAM and enjoy gaming at Max settings.

AMD figures that with 4GB 1080p games can get:

  1. Error messages and warning limits
  2. Lower Framerates
  3. Gameplay stutter and texture pop-in issues
Well ...

Update: after the public heat AMD decided to place the blog back online.
