AMD Might Be Working on Z490 Chipset - Would Get More and Faster PCIe Lanes
A new slide leaked today, it shows all AMD chipset, including one called Z490. That's interesting as it's the first time we've heard of it. The new chipset would add more PCIe lanes, but also make them faster.
The new Z490 would see 12 PCI-Express lanes (was 8). What's interesting, AMD chipsets use PCIe 2.0 right, the new one would add four PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes which clearly indicates a direct connect for say an extra M2 SSD. Currently, a Ryzen processor offers 16 full Gen lanes for the graphics card, then four gen 3 for NVME storage and then the ones for the interlink in-between the Chipset and processor.
The leak allegedly was spotted on the EVGA forums mentions videocardz and supposedly came from official presentation of Gigabyte AORUS X470 motherboards. We have no idea about the actual validity of the slide though.

That's a little confusing, because isn't it X390 (and presumably X490) for Threadripper?
The 400 series motherboards are already underwhelming as-is. Instead of this Z490, they should've just added the extra lanes to the X470.

I like the "Y". I would like the "Y" to get a little love. Y470.... I like it.
It is a bit confusing with the Z.

AMD in recent times have used the prefix "X" in naming their High End Enthusiast Chipset. I don't see them using "Z" and we already know that there's a Z390 in the works from intel.
