AMD makes Radeon RX 500X series offical: OEM rebrands
On its website AMD has now released official information on the Radeon RX 500X series. Little is new about is, and it seems to be OEM rebranding with the Radeon RX 500 series. As we discussed yesterday, the new X series ends up in OEM PCs and laptops.
That means you are not going to see an updated X series graphics cards from add-in partners. If you spec things up, Polaris 12 GPUs of the respin GPUs seems to be clocked a bit higher, the rest all remains the same. The new X series will also end up in the new HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop which is announced today, that one will get a AMD Radeon RX 560X.
In the end for the regular end-user that purchases its graphics card separately, the new X series is not relevant.

If it's for OEM, then it's not stupid. OEM asks, OEM gets.
As for waiting, I do agree with you that it is reasonable economical decision. They just have to keep close eye on demand and not to overproduce. But taking into consideration that as miners decrease demand, AMD/nV will be finally selling again to gamers who are waiting for price to touch MSRP.
Well that's... stupid, to say the least. Could've at least done a die shrink or boost some clocks here and there. Seems to me it'll just cause unnecessary confusion. But like I said the other day, they're probably intentionally holding off the 600 series until the mining craze dies down, and buying themselves more time.

OEM rebrands or OEM specific models are confusing. If it's different, don't name it the same as another product and transversely, don't give a new name to an old, released product (like here). This is a problem with Nvidia too, or has been.

Why does it seem that every man and his dog is against re-branding and confusing things, except when it comes to Big Businesses?
Who are these Marketing people who think, I know, we need to really confuse the entire consumer base of our product by adding an X - because the development arm of the company hasn't been able to do anything with a new design for the past year.
