AMD lowers Radeon R9 290 and 290X pricing with 25 percent
With the release of the GeForce GTX 900 series Nvidia dropped a little bomb on pricing, especially with the GeForce GTX 970. This product is hurting AMD exactly in the R9 290 and 290X range. As such you will slowly start to notice a price drop for these two products, you can expect them dropping by a margin of 25%
The Radeon R9 290 is dropping slowly but steadily from 399 USD towards 299 USD, and the big daddy R9 290X was priced at 549 USD and now is shifting towards 399 USD.
By lowering the prices AMD hopes to make their product more attracktive in pricing and by doing so they will further push the competition. Obviously with the AMD cards you will still be entitled towards included free games.

I own myself a Sapphire tri-x OC r9 290 4gb, last week it was 415€ in Portugal(were i live)
Now its 387€. The cheapest gtx970 here is 368€. By the difference on HDMI 2.0+DSR+ -100watts/less heat The gtx970 is by far the best buy of this two.
Anyone even thinking about getting one of these new, then go for 970. If you can get 290 in 2nd hand, by something like 250€ then 290 is ofc the best buy as its only 8% inferior then 970 but at a cost of 100w+ .
Now ofc AMD will release 2 new gpus, a bit better then 970 and 980 for a few coin less as allways does. So if you wanna keep AMD just wait a little longer , it will for sure pay off as AMD allways have better deals in price/performance

I saw this on Newegg yesterday and for my card Newegg lowered it by over $100 bucks. Maybe if I can get my card working a 2nd r9 290 might be in the books for me if my PSU can support 2 r9 290s and I think that it can since there is a fellow member who owns 2 r9 290Xs and is using a an 850W PSU.
