AMD Kaveri Godavari Refresh Released mid-2015

AMD Kaveri Godavari Refresh Released mid-2015

From the looks of it, AMD cancelled Carrizo-based FM2+ APUs for the time being  but will release refreshes of Kaveri with faster clockspeeds. These chips are codenamed Godavari.

Only three out of 12 Kaveri "Godavari" models have two CPU cores and 1 MB L2 cache. The rest of the lineup has 4 CPU cores and 4 MB of cache. With the exception of one A4 model, all APUs support DDR3-2133 memory.

On the high end AMD is going to offer A10-8850K and A10 PRO-8850B consumer and PRO versions of 95 Watt SKU. They will be clocked at 3.7 GHz, with a maximum Turbo Core frequency of 4.1 GHz. The GPU on the PRO chip will operate at 800 MHz, and the "8850K" will have it running at up to 856 MHz. There will be also consumer and PRO versions of 65 Watt SKU, that will be branded as A10-8750 and A10 PRO-8750B. These two APUs will operate at 3 GHz, boostable to 3.5 GHz. Maximum GPU clock frequency for the A10-8750 and A10 PRO-8750B is yet to be determined. All A10-8000 series products will integrate Radeon R7 graphics, featuring 512 shader cores.

AMD A8-series will consist of A8-8650, A8 PRO-8650B and A8-8650K models. Despite having similar model numbers, these APUs operate at different frequencies, and even have different TDP ratings. The A8-8650K has 3.2 GHz base and 3.5 GHz turbo frequencies, and it is rated at 95 Watt TDP. The A8-8650 has 300 MHz higher Turbo Core speed, and lower 65 Watt TDP. The A8 PRO-8650B is a 65 Watt chip, that has its base and turbo speeds reduced to 2.9 GHz and 3.2 GHz. All A8 microprocessors have R7 graphics, clocked at 760 MHz, and 386 shaders.

A4- and A6-series processors run at 3 GHz - 3.1 GHz, and up to 3.5 GHz. They have Radeon R5 graphics with 256 shader cores, and 65 Watt TDP.

In addition to a range of Kaveri processors with integrated GPU, AMD will ship Athlon X4 850 and 870K SKUs, both with disabled graphics unit. The CPUs will run at 2.9 and 3.5 GHz respectively, which is 200 MHz lower than their Athlon X4 840 and 860K predecessors.

Comparing original and refresh Kaveri specs reveals very small, if any, CPU performance increase, and large GPU clock increases for some SKUs:

PredecessorNew modelFrequencyTurbo

Athlon X4 840 Athlon X4 850 -200 MHz -600 MHz N/A
Athlon X4 860K Athlon X4 870K -200 MHz -300 MHz N/A
A6-7400K A6-8550K -400 MHz -400 MHz No data +DDR3-2133
A8-7600 A8-8650 +100 MHz   +40 MHz
A10-7800 A10-8750 -500 MHz -400 MHz No data
A10-7850K A10-8850K   +100 MHz +136 MHz

The flagship A10-8850K will have about 19% boost in GPU clock speed. Maximum GPU speed increase for A8 parts is more modest, only 5.5%. Known specifications of all Kaveri Refresh processors are provided below. Please note that CPU and GPU frequencies may still change before the official launch, which should happen in the first half of 2015:

Fm2+ has everything am3 has and more minus the L3 cache which i believe is the only thing stoping them from doing any higher end stuff with it. It really is a wonderfull chipset imo

This is true, and also look at say the 860k performance versus the FX4 series. The 860k can match it and sometimes even overtake it despite lacking that l3 cache.

Bummer, I think Carrizo would be a good chip for an HTPC. I really would like to do a build with a Carrizo APU and HDMI 2.0.

You'll most definitely find Carrizo chips as non-replacable motherboards for HTPC applications.

AFAIK, Kaveri and Godavari are rivers of India.
AMD interested on rivers too much? Eco-Friendly?

^Go away with these silly posts the 780ti used almost the same amount of power and the 290x only ran hot with the stock cooler. If u like high prices then keep bashing amd u fanboy.
