AMD fixes R9 Fury X Whining Noises

AMD fixes R9 Fury X Whining Noises

One of the smaller problems of the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X is that the cooler is making some noises alongside a tiny bit of whine. We noted that in our review already. However AMD seems to have tackled the problem.

We already indicated that the noises we hear mostly (also let me state it's not a big deal) are actually the pump that resides in the cooling block seated on the GPU. AMD already mentioned they would have this fixed fore the retail versions of the product, and that seems to be the case as some photos just appeared on the web showing the Fury X with a new Cooler Master LCS block.

If you experience the issue, you can RMA the unit of course. If you are about to purchase a unuit, there's no real way of telling if it has the new pump though.

However if you open up the card and see a multicolor sticker, you got the old one, see this example from our review:

The newmodel cooler is all chrome, see below. You can open up the front-plate covering the card without breaking any warranties.

Guess the annoying thing is how do you know what you got when you purchase the card?. Would be interesting to see if there can be another review with this new one (it's hard to tell, a part of me says they did change the pump, while the other think it's just a cosmetic change)

They should have gone with the ASETEK pump solution.
It has better performance and less noise. ;)

Does opening the card like that to check which one it is void the warranty?

Wouldn't there be an easier way to tell, like a revision number on the box/sticker?

If you read the articles it says no. You just removing a cover.
