AMD Eyefinity 3-panel Mixed Resolution Review

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 06/27/2014 08:57 AM | source: | 12 comment(s)

AMD recently added a new feature to their Catalyst 14.6 Beta drivers, you can now mix several monitor resolutions and still create an Eyefinity (multi-screen) gaming setup. Funky stuff, and sure we wanted to check that out. So we will take two Full HD monitors and combine them with a WFHD (2560x1080) resolution monitor. The end result is something wide, very wide. We will pair the setup with a Radeon R9 295x2 and will show you that multi-monitor goodness for your gaming experience.

That does look nice. And good to know that AMD nailed it with their drivers for this mixed resolution thing now. :) Great review.

I may just be trying this in a few months, assuming it works with 7970s :D

Unfortunately, as for our testing, the function isn't flawless.

The "perfect" setup for such a thing isn#t properly working.

that means using two 1600x1200 displays on the sides rotated 90° and a 2560x1600 in the center - ideal panorama game setup.

It would work now with the resolutions, just not with them being rotated, that messes the driver up. Is there any way to accomplish it with the new driver function or not? Looking forward to hear the feedback!

The new 14.6 drivers are awesome for me. I literally just got eyefinity when the 14.6 dropped. Im running a 25inch Hanns G 1080p for my center monitor, and two dell 17inch 128x1024. Its not idea and its 16:9 and 4:3 monitors, but it works and its awesome.

I have not been able to use them rotatated as I originally hoped. Bu its ok. So worth it.

Currently using 4484x1018 as my resolution. Assassins Creed Black Flag, Bad Company 2 and Grid 2 are giving me major issues. All Unreal 3 based games still have the horrible fov issues. But it still is friggin awesome.

Im still learing how to setup the monitor properly. Its awesome to see my #1 HD 7850 drive 4 monitors.

Actually effectively it is not possible.. if you rotate 1 or 2 monitor, the 3 will be rotated. you can not rotate only 2 and keep one on landscape mode. ( because you work with 1 screen space across 3 monitors, so basically you end with the screen space rotated or not )

I will not call this flawless or not, but an actual limitation. This possibility is not supported. ( its not like it was intended to work and it dont ). Maybe something for next drivers.
