AMD's next-generation EPYC "Genoa" corporate CPUs, which will be available in the Socket SP5 form factor, are seen in some of their initial photos.

Using the 6,080-pin SP5 package, AMD's chip designers can raise CCD counts to 12, resulting in up to 96 "Zen 4" CPU cores for the Genoa processor.

According to an X-ray image of the prototype, only two CCDs are fitted in the 16-core processor seen below. As a result of the Socket SP5 configuration, "Genoa" has access to several unusual I/O capabilities, including 24x 40-bit DDR5 channels (12-channels in the normal sense) and 128x PCI-Express Gen 5.0 lanes. AMD Genoa is expected to ship later this year, just in time for the company's EPYC Bergamo cloud server CPU, which will include 128 Zen4c cores and will be available in October. The SP5 socket will be used to support the AMD EPYC 7005 Turin family of processors, which are slated to be released between 2023 and 2024.
