AMD Epyc chips beat Intel Xeon in Geekbench for price 25% of the price

AMD has been going strong with ZEN2 and is ramping out products real fast to catch the momentum. In that mindset, a duo of 64-core Epyc chip was spotted in geekbench as tested by Servethehome. The difference in price and perf is quite remarkable.

Now it has to be stated that geekbench, of course, is not a representable server benchmark, but it does tell a thing or two indications wise on performance. The test involved a server with two Epyc 7742 chips thus fitted with 128 cores and 256 threads.

In the Linux version of Geekbench 4, this system achieved a multi-core score of no less than 193554 points . The fastest result for team blue was that of a Dell PowerEdge R840 with four Intel Xeon 8180M processors - a total of 112 cores and 224 threads. This combination achieved more than 155050 points, roughly twenty percent slower than the AMD system.

The four Xeon 8180Ms cost a total of $52044, two Epyc 7742s are sold for only $13900. Again, Geekbench is not representative, regardless of AMD and the server industry should be happy with this result.

Wake up someone sleeping on their laurels, this what AMD is doing, and doing well.

AMD is knocking intel around the ring like Ali and a 7 stone weakling while also kicking them up the arse and Ryzen is selling because intel has very little to sweet feck all stock on the shelves.Cant buy intel if they aint in stock, people want parts NOW not 8 months later.

Out of 12 Pentiums and i3s there are only 2 models instock, 9th gens paper released months ago still aint on the shelves since then.

well i do not believe Jim Keller just sit around and eat sunflower seeds all day he is there for that reason

he must be sick and tired of spending each and every day removing heads from buttholes in the boardroom.

How can they be knocking anyone around when the Q1 and Q2 market share of AMD has remained 17.1% for desktop chips

As for the server chips, AMD was at 3.2% in Q4 2018, 2.9% in Q1 2019, and 3.4% in Q2 2019.

Seems to me that a lot of people need to stop reading news articles like this fakenews....

.... at a single german retailer who primarily sells AMD chips. lol.

Intel be like.. what do we do now?

They'll continue to enjoy their lead in real world applications instead of synthetic benchmarks and of course cinebench.

well i am am not objective about that guy ...this guy ...what ever he designs becomes a hit ...mad respects so when ever what ever he is cooking comes out .... i am very confident is DOOMED to be good ... what i want to see is if amd will be up for the task to match it / stay close / or surpass it .... imagine if it is a reverse rysen situation and then amd hire Keller ...to make their next architecture
