An unexpected revelation from an AMD engineer has unveiled the core codenames for the forthcoming "Zen 5" and "Zen 6" microarchitectures.

AMD employs these microarchitecture titles, such as the existing "Zen 4" and previous "Zen 3" or earlier iterations, as CCD (CPU complex dies) codenames, applicable to both Ryzen consumer and EPYC enterprise processors. The "Zen 3" CCD codename is "Breckenridge," while "Zen 4" carries the designation "Durango." AMD also assigns codenames to individual CPU cores, such as "Cerebrus" for "Zen 3" cores and "Persephone" for "Zen 4" cores.

The leaked information discloses that the CCD for the upcoming "Zen 5" microarchitecture is titled "Eldora," with the "Zen 5" CPU core itself referred to as "Nirvana." In contrast, the "Zen 6" microarchitecture will include CCD cores named "Morpheus," though no CCD codename has been revealed. "Zen 5" will be built upon a 3 nm EUV foundry node, while "Zen 6" will utilize a 2 nm EUV foundry node. The engineer responsible for "Zen 5" and "Zen 6" power-management technology stated that they worked on "Zen 5" from January through December 2022, implying that the next "Zen" architecture's development phase is likely concluded and in the testing and refinement stages. Furthermore, work on the power-management aspect of "Zen 6" began in January 2023.

Nonetheless, this leak offers an intriguing glimpse into AMD's future endeavors, and tech aficionados can anticipate further updates and announcements from the company.
