AMD announced on Twitter that their anti micro-stutter aka frame pacing driver has been delayed to end July, the driver for their multi-GPU solutions was supposed to be released this month. In a Twitter post they pretty much reversed the news as a new announcement all excited that the driver is soon to be released whilst the reality is that they delayed the release. The new driver should help fight off micro-stuttering as explained here in our initial FCAT article.

The good news is that AMD apparently has nailed the problem. The bad news, you'll have to wait until July 31 before they are released.

Here's AMD's Tweet:

Big news for CrossFire! We plan to release our driver that delivers improved multi-GPU frame pacing on July 31. More info soon.

No matter how you look at this, it means great progress as micro-stuttering has been an ongoing issue mentioned many years now. NVIDIA in the past has had the same problems, but they already got this issue under control ever since the introduction of Kepler GPUs by a technique called frame pacing, again read the article in the link above.

Above a Radeon 6990 at work, a lot of frames bounce up and down in latency.

Above a GeForce GTX 690 at work, the same game sequence. A much more consistent latency and thus smoother game experience.
