AMD already announced its 32-core 64-threaded 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper processor on Computex 2018, we also learned that this Zen+ architecture 12nm process processor will be called Ryzen Threadripper 2990X. The release date, however, was unknown.

According to website Benchlife, typically well informed, AMD would release the new processors on August 13th with two models, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X and the Ryzen Threadripper 2950X. The 32-core Ryzen Threadripper would be the 2990X, the Ryen Threadripper 2950X is rumored to be a 24-core unit with 48 threads (crazy stuff btw, try to visualize that in the task manager displaying all these little cores) :-)

Cores

16 cores / 32 threads - helooooow. But starting August, you can multiply the above by two ;)

It is rumored that the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 2990X would cost something in the $1,500 marker (could be a little more or less). That would bring the 24 core version at roughly $1,150 USD.

Gigabyte and MSI already seem to be working on some revamped sweetness X399 motherboards, the Aorus X399 Xtreme and MSI's X399 MEG Creation; the TDP of the 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper processor is set at 250W. While existing X399 will support the new procs after a BIOS upgrade, for overclocking the new X399 chip motherboards are enhanced in both the power and cooling segments. Summing things up, the 32-core 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper processor will meet and greet you, likely in mid-August.
