AIDA64 Adds Support for NVIDIA TU116 GPU (GeForce GTX 1660)

AIDA64 Adds Support for NVIDIA TU116 GPU (GeForce GTX 1660)

It's clear that NVIDIA is preparing to release a non-RTX enabled GeForce GTX 1660 / 1660 Ti soon. Next tp the plethora of rumors and leaked info, AIDA just started adding support for a GPU called TU116.

It is suggested there will be two video cards based on the chip, namely the GTX 1660 and the 1660 Ti. The Ti variant will very likely get GDDR6 graphics memory, the non-Ti would get GDDR5 graphics memory as well as a 6GB and 3GB configuration. The 1660 series would not have raytracing cores. It remains unknown if tensor cores are present. We expect the cards to occupy the 200 to 300 USD price domain. AIDA release notes now show the following.

Nvidia GeForce
GTX 1060 GTX 1660 GTX 1660 Ti RTX 2060
GPU GP106 12nm FF TU116 12nm FF TU116 12nm FF TU106
Shader cores 1280 1280 1536 1920
Memory 6 GB / 3GB GDDR5 6GB / 3GB GDDR5 6GB GDDR6 6GB GDDR6
Memory bus 192-bit 192-bit 192-bit 192-bit

Above the expected configuration of the pending cards, the specs however remain speculation until announced. Thanks Thel Vadam for this spot.

Update: meanwhile at some etailers videocardz spotted, some of the listings for 1660 Ti cards also have surfaced.

If 1660 exists, what will the next generation be called? 1760?`
I would really like an explanation to the naming decision.
Maybe in the next generation they won't need to cut raytracing for the lower models, making the whole range RTX 3000 series?

With such a low sales i wont be surpised if even 3000 series dont have the whole range.

Too bad for me the final specs of AV1 codec isn't out yet for final implementation into cards. That was the reason I got a GTX960 ( full H265 support ). Now why I got a 1060, don't ask, don't tell. But a 1160 with Hardware Support for AV1 that would be something to consider, since this codec is a collaboration of almost all big companies.

Nevermind anyway. Let's enjoy the 1060 a bit. It's as if I'm throwing money out of the window lately. Even Got an ASUS Z390 Gaming Plus, an i5 8500 and an SSD Samsung 860 ( had already two 850 ). Meanwhile my previous CPU ( i5 4690 ) was way more than enough for my games/movies/series etc. The i5 8500 single thread performance only increased by 12%. Obviously the multithreading only worth it, 57%. At least the Z390 supports 9th gen CPUs. I'll get the i7 9700 no matter what.

AV1 is still far off. even if final specs were out, the support and adoption would come much later.
and btw still most content is H.264....

There won't be AV1 hardware before mid-2020, maybe even 2021. It takes quite a while for this stuff to be made after the spec finishes, chips are being designed years in advance of their release.
