Actor William Shatner Makes It To Space With Blue Origin

Blue Origin successfully completed its second manned space mission on Wednesday. William Shatner, 90, was sent to space on the modified New Shepard rocket.



The flight took eleven minutes. The space tourists remained suspended in mid-air for a few moments before returning to Earth. Blue Origin was scheduled to launch the New Shepard rocket on Tuesday, October 12, however, the launch was postponed due to high winds.

Audrey Powers, vice president of Blue Origin, and William Shatner, 90, were also on board. Shatner starred in the science fiction franchise Star Trek as Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise. Shatner is the world's oldest astronaut. Wally Funk, 82, set the record earlier this year on Blue Origin's inaugural human tourist flight. Chris Boshuizen and Glen de Vries were among the passengers. Boshuizen previously worked at NASA and co-founded Planet Labs. De Vries was a co-founder of Medidata, a company that develops software for clinical research.

The second commercial flight of Blue Origin. In July, the business flew its maiden commercial flight. Former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, his brother Wally Funk, and 18-year-old Dutchman Oliver Daemen were all on board. This year, Blue Origin plans to conduct another commercial launch.
