Acer launches Predator 17X laptop with GTX 980 - G1-desktop and Z1 montors
Acer updated its Predator series for gamers. Among other things they are releasing a 17-inch laptop with 4K screen and an embedded GeForce GTX 980. They are also releasing a desktop PC in a 16-liter chassis design and new curved G-Sync compatible monitors.
The 17-inch laptop is named the "Predator 17X". The laptop will be available in display versions ranging from 1080p (Full HD) up-to 2160p (Ultra HD). The processor used will be the Core i7-6820HK which may be 'overclocked 400 MHz' towards 4 GHz (coming from 3.6 GHz). The embedded GeForce GTX 980 can be tweaked up-to 1310 MHz on the GPU boost frequency and 3.7 GHz on the gDDR5 memory of that graphics unit. The GeForce GTX 980 mentioned is the desktop version, yet housed onto a GTX 980 mxm-module.
The high-end components based laptop will need serious cooling, the laptop as such is based on no less than three fans combined with an internal vapor chamber cooler. On the storage front Acer certainly does not dissapoint, they will include three PCIe SSDs that are nVME based setup in RAID0. RAID 0 (also known as a stripe set or striped volume) splits data evenly across two or more disks with speed as its goal. Network wise we you are looking at a nice Killer Double Shot Pro. The Predator 17 X starts at 2699 euro and will be available in July.
In the same July time-frame the Predator G1-desktop will become available as well. The PC is housed in-to a 16 liter chassis which helps you to carry the unit to friends or LAN parties. The G1 supports GeForce graphics cards and can be configured up-to a GeForce Titan X. Acer will give you options with everything Skylake available on the processor front. The system can house a maximum of 64GB of DDR4 memory and you can opt HDD and SSD storage (SSDs up-to 512GB). The system comes with an usb 3.1c connector (Gen 2 - 10 Gbps). The starting price for the desktop unit will be 1799 euro with extra accessories like keyboard etc available as options as well.
Last but not least, Announces the Predator Z1, the familiar and popular curved monitor series. Acer releases them in 31,5" - 30" and 27" screen formats. The monitors all will support G-Sync. The 30" Predator is a 21:9 model with a resolution of 2560x1080 pixels and a grey-to-grey response time of 4ms. Details for the other two monitors have not been shared just yet, the starting price however will be 599 euro.

I've always wanted a gaming laptop , but been put off by their longevity and not being able to upgrade them plus in-superior graphical power .
Now that we are seeing full desktop gpu being used gives me hope that oneday i will trade in my bulkie tower PCs for a powerful laptop , so gaming can become more portable , like using when on holiday around the pool

can vouch for that, the times are soon over where NB and Desktop counterpart GPUs where much slower, i already using a DTR for work and traveling and gaming on the go, namely clevo P771DM-G, 6700k @ 4.2Ghz in there + 980m with high OC (1400/2900) and yeah it's absolutely fantastic good thing too is that it has TB3.0 i'm interested if i could potentially put a desktop pascal for example in there via an eGPU, and no it doesn't get that hot too, so yeah i could see myself doing that too that i banish my desktop

Issues with gaming on flights are:
- For long flights battery is not enough.
- Lack of space even for a portable laptop.
I've taken my Lenovo X220 12.5'' laptop on several flights and I STRUGGLE to fit the laptop whilst in a flight.
How on earth would you fit a 17+ inch monster laptop aboard? Unless you travel business or first class you ain't no way fitting anything larger than 13'' in economy...
